I'd like to ask you with in the story's canon if you think Anna's desire for revenge is more an excuse to allow herself to tread on the dark path or is a tool she uses to make herself feel better. It's clear Anna "knows" David has cheated(sic) but holds out some hope David is guiltless. Still, I've always thought Anna was more invested in being married and the concept of marriage then being invested in David. As a side note, unrelated I've always held one can be married without the legal papers that says you are married and, legally married but not be married in spirit.
