a) so far, he progressed further than anyone if you choose his options
b) out of all the dudes that are out there, he's the most despicable one. One could somehow understand horny morons from Anna's job , since they barely have any resemblance to David - he's just a collateral to them. When it comes to Chris - he is his friend, whom he double-crosses whenever an opportunity arrives.
One can cheer for Jake with his jock personality, who can be played as "lamb who's lost" on one of the paths, one can cheer for Marvin cuz he's the weakest of them all and the only ace up his sleeve is pity, etc. But as for Chris - he's written to be as unlikable as one can be.
Could've been cool if he had some kind of redemption arc, but it just seems to be too unrealistic.
