HTML - A Spell for All [v14.15d] [Cmacleod42]

A Spell for All could have been so much better, but its UI and repetitiveness make it a chore to play using the default options / difficulty settings, and you’re likely to get game overs or locked out of content if you don’t do things in a very specific order, despite the game not doing a particularly good job of explaining what’s expected of you half the time.

If you are going to give this a try, I’d strongly recommend enabling fast travel from the start, as well as the undo button using the “App” on the phone.

Multiple paths, Good Story, Satisfying and replayable sex scenes. The game can seem a bit blurry and complicated at first (Not much hand holding or telling you want you have to do) at first but a great liberty to go and do what you want when you finally understand the basics. One of my tops MC games online.

This is a great-grand-daddy of a game. It's debut on TFGames and F95z was in 2016, but there are posts on other bb's about it from all the way back to 2001. The current major version, 14, was originally posted in 2015. As of 2024, we are up to 14.15.

It's a proto-javascript game. v1 predates Twine (2007) by 6 years, the earliest front-end toolkits like Bootstrap (2011) by 10 years, and the current gen html/Twine template language Sugarcube2 (2015) by 14 years. (Sugarcube2 was released the same year as our current v14 ASFA).

This is all to say, that this game was an engineering _marvel_ 10 years ago. It had complex mechanics, characters with dynamic persistent behaviors, a large game world with semi-coherant lore, mini-games, r-rated shots of _au courant_ starlets like peak Ashlynn Brooks (Sarah) and Justine Joli (Jessica the witch), and plenty of spicy content. AFAIK, it's the _original_ "Student mind-controls his hot mother and sister" trope.

But since there was no game framework to build from, each mechanic had to be separately crafted and linked into the content, as the content was developed. Each UI element painstakingly designed and placed for each action or inventory item as they were scripted. Each character portrait copied with glow added to their eyes to indicate their mind-control state with Windows Paint.

And unfortunately, there has been no real evolution in the platform in the intervening 10 years, at least. Between the clunky legacy code and the punishing sandbox environment, there is a _lot_ of room for errors, sprawl, pointless grinding, missed ideas, and way too many clicks just to find out that you can't do something. Indeed, you probably realize that you actually have no idea what you are even supposed to be doing to progress the story.

There are a few narrative lines that are sort-of-achievable, but there is no real overarching 'end' for the game. Most of the game is the challenge of charming and/or enslaving all of the exclusively* female denizens of the town. (*Ok, actually there are 3 bio-males, but you can xform them.) Some of the people are harder to 'catch' than others, some are hard to get alone, some require spell upgrades, some require introductions from other charmed characters or map region unlocks. But most of those dependencies don't really make sense, and the only way to figure them out is to consult the detailed walk-through that is included. And charming them doesn't actually provide anything other than another bed to sleep in at night and a couple more r-rated shots of 2015 hotties.

Ironically, it's probably more fun to just read the walk-through and browse the media than to play the game by that point.

I've played through this game in whole or in part more than a couple of times over the last few years. I always return to it hopeful that there has been meaningful improvement in catching up with modernity. But honestly, there really hasn't been any progress to speak of, and, at this point, it's not much more than a technical curiosity.

This was 4-stars 10 years ago, but unfortunately it's only 2-stars today.

One of my favorite games to play. Still haven't finished all the story lines after 3 or 2 years... with an open mind and imagination this game can make u feel, as tho you're in a complex mystery novel, or a superhero saving a town... the replayability is endless, and the story keeps me excited, and waiting for the next update

So much content and story and still not abandoned. Hot situations, images, and writing, cool variety of options, cool and interesting mechanics. It could be a little clearer on what to do next at times in-game and it has a few small bugs, but nothing super significant unless you’re using cheats. Dangerously engaging if you’re like me, so I highly recommend unless you have a serious problem.

Dev, please add more videos (unedited video > edited image but both are good), non-white actresses, and content related to pregnancy or breeding. Show some creampies.

When I first played this game years and years ago, it was only okay, but so much content has been added that I keep coming back to it. It's fun! Much better than most games in the HTML-with-porn-photos genre.

This game is quite good, both in terms of the richness of the game plot and the system's assistance to beginners. The UI and interface layout are also getting better and better with version updates and optimizations. In the game, you can make different choices to allow the MC to enter different plot paths, so that players can still have a good experience after playing. This game has a long playing time, high playability, and is worth a try

This is one of my fav browser based corruption VN's to spend time on.

    Pro's:
Solid renders, good world building, writing is OK.

    Cons:
Characters could use more depth, backstory etc

    Overall a solid effort!

This has easily got to be one of the best mind-control porn games I've played, ever. Honestly going in I was a little skeptical since I tend to get bored quickly with non sugarcube html games but this one had a clear, and in my opinion, well-paced story. It didn't take to long to get to sex but it was exactly unrealistically fast. The Dev is very interactive and answers questions quickly, clearly, and concisely, honestly, I don't know what else to say at this point other than that I'm going to start recommending this game to random people whether they ask or not. The only thing I wish there was more of is the actual live sex scenes and gifs as opposed to one or three still images that some characters get, but even then I'm not gonna complain since it's not exactly impossible for me to rectify that myself.

I'm keeping it short... This game needs a proper hint system. It's hard to keep track of progress and gets confusing when you progress further than what the walkthrough is telling you to. In fact I've been missing some characters for awhile now and went and use the cheat which further made the game confusing cause i no longer knew what to do ..

It's time I finally rate this one.

Because I've played it so much I can't comment on hard it is to figure out since I go by memory now but I remember using the walkthrough early on and I'm not above looking at the source when it's particularly tricky (e.g. I can't remember which sequence of actions is required to GF Kate).

Almost no randomness (except taxi but I don't use it that often, also classroom books). This is a pet peeve of mine. As a rule, I save-scum so its absence just saves time.

Very little grinding: for mana it mostly depends on the path (I mostly stick to Soft Murder which happens to be the least grindy). Also, Aunt Brandi, Didi, Amy Ross, Mia and Mother Superior to some extent. Considering the size of the roster, I can live with that.

I've played this game through several times over the last few years and used it as the measure of most other porn games I've played since (especially sandbox ones or those that I wish were sandboxes).

A few days ago I left a rating after having played ~2/3 hours for the first time. A quick summary of it then would be "cryptic, somehow soft-locked myself even with walkthrough, bad puzzles, no porn for too long, would have been better as a VN, 1 star"

Despite that, I tried playing the game again and while I won't take back what I said about the cryptic aspect of the game and awful UI I still kinda had fun. More importantly I wanted to acknowledge the passionate work of the dev and offer a more sincere review (since I'm now deep in the game and have seen what it truly offers). So here we are.

The game is pretty nice once you're used to it (and have the mighty Upgraded Teleport spell), it offers a power trip with basic fetishes covered and the story got me interested for more (although the Apprentice Path can feel weird, like your mentor don't want you to use the Charm spell and you litterally can't play without it. Feels like you can't be anything other than a power hungry deviant. Anyways.)

TL;DR : I gave the game a second chance, then I had fun, liked the story, liked the porn and am impressed by the dev dedication to try and propose an open-world power trip porn game. My advice ? Fap first, and play the first hours as a game, not as a porn game.

An interesting instance of html games.

It can keep you at least for a 3 days.

I'd suggest to compile photos of one event in one page, and add more gifs. I like gifs!
And please add travel to church after the Mother is loyal to MC.

Good but deeply flawed game. Idea behind game is interesting, while being power fantasy you need to work for it. There is investigation and mystery and few puzzles.
Unfortunately I was unable to play this game without cheats enabled. Even while using walkthrough I'm pretty sure I soft locked myself from finishing it.

Personally found this to be the best text-based real porn game on the website. Great writing, lots of characters and fetishes covered, good length, various routes to take, and solid endings as well. Plus, the developer continuously updates the game, so I think it's definitely worth a revisit too.

Only downside that I found was the game may be a little confusing without a walkthrough, but the developer provides one with the game files, so no biggie.

Overall, solid game and one that I would highly recommend to any text-based real porn game enjoyer.

The first time playing the game is extremely confusing. Important items are easy to miss. You practically have to read the walkthrough to have even the slightest idea of what to do/what you're doing. Next, the menus, drop down tabs, numerous little things you click, are annoying at the least, tedious at the midterm, and frustrating at the worst. The UI is also frustrating. Just trying to navigate around the city/house is like a chore. The story honestly isn't that terribly interesting. Nor are the characters in this game. Though those last 2 bits are just my opinion.

Honestly, if I was reviewing based off of my enjoyment/opinion I'd give this a 1*.

But I can admit the developer has put in effort, and this style of game is more enjoyable for others/their cup of tea. There is also quite a bit of content. But It's just too much of a slog for me to enjoy it.

I am in dubio about rating it a 4 or 5. I must add I cheated from the start, this looking for stones and just traveling around to pass time to get to an event doesn't do it for me. For this game you have to know it is not really made by one dev but is is picked up by someone else and has become somewhat of a community project.
This game is amazingly ambitious and has a huge amount of content. It is a open world and every location has some interactions, be it free or to progress the story.
The story itself is great, there are several paths to play at the moment which give some variations in events. I tried the apprentice path which works well and can be finished, and the hard murder path which got me completely stuck and I couldn't finish, maybe trough fault of my own.
Porn content is not that deep, basically you charm some poor women and you have a bunch of repeatable interactions. Seems strange to me for they chose a lot of softcore models or pictures without sexual content for actual intercourse. But maybe this is just a WIP.

For me a major hurdle was the sheer amount of characters in the game. If I examine the files we have 89 characters to interact with and in most cases can be conquered. After playing some time I just cannot for the life of me remember who everyone is referring to, I am bad with names so maybe it is just me.

Another minus for me is the actual charming people. When the prerequisites are met (right spellbuff/location/etc) you just BAM charm them and they are your loyal slave forever, no questions asked. Only a few characters need a lot more persuasion and setup, those tend to be a lot more satisfying.

Another point is the story progress, sometimes you have to just do a tiny thing to progress but it is almost impossible to find without the guide. For example to use hypnosis you have to master it with help from mr (or ms) Beasly. Afterwards I had to use hypnosis on some chick, but first I had to get to this Beasly guy to ask if using hypnosis was actually a good idea, took me about half an hour of pointlessly traveling across the map to see what I missed. Also, some other time I got stuck I had to visit a supermarket where I have been to tonnes of times before and never anything happened.

Last one is missing content. By user fuckup or just in general. A lot of locations are hidden from the player until necessary for the story. So you have this french teacher with a one time encounter, if you fuck up by not having the correct item or give a bad response you will never know where her classroom is. Another is the shopping street, along the game more and more shops are added? Weird.

Sounds like a lot of rant for a good review but I am a critic I guess, All in all I enjoyed myself, it is a very unique game and it is very absorbing, so 5/5.

    SoulsSurvivor

I was considering giving this game a two but considering that there is plenty of good I will give it a 3. The biggest issue really is that a sandbox adventure game, and it most definitely suffers from the many issues that a lot of adventures game do, only brought even more to the forefront because of the nonlinear nature of the game. Typically I would say this isn't bad but after I had to restart for the third time because things that the guide said should happen but didn't for some arbitrary reason likely involving doing one thing out of order of the guide I decided that the sandbox nature is a net negative and really brings the game down significantly. Also not the biggest fan that I am locked out of the incest content unless I expressly have a certain character do something, feels really restrictive in a really stupid way.

    TrapmanCrothers

I'll start off by saying this is a difficult game to review. I don't like to let personal preferences get in the way of acknowledging quality, but I'm torn on some aspects. While there are so many positive aspects to this game, and I reflect in my rating, I'll talk about some of the things I think would matter to a prospective player.

There's a decent amount of porn in this game, and the scenarios in which it's found are right up my street (dominance, control, incest both implied and actual, the odd uncommon kink).

This game reminds me a lot of playing the old point and click adventures. Finding hidden objects, hidden pathways, darting around trying to figure out what this object does, and who I need to talk to to progress the next step. Just like the good old games like Broken Sword. Except with a lot of good sexual content. It's well worth noting at this point that I suck at those games. I pay attention best I can but I'd always hit walls and be mashing buttons hoping to luck through areas.

My problem is, while I look back on those point and click games with rose-tinted glasses, at times A Spell for All has forced me to remember just how frustrating those could be. I've wandered round aimlessly managing to miss the one person I needed to talk to, not figured out what an item does and thought I'd hit a wall, not realised that a certain spell needed to be cast in a certain place in order to find a certain thing. I had to turn to the walkthrough guide more than a few times. For those who love that kind of game, or those who aren't so incompetent as I am, this could be a big selling point.

One aspect I did enjoy was the inclusion of genuine puzzles and riddles (some maths based, some general knowledge, and at least one traditional riddle in my play so far). It all goes to the feeling that you're actually playing an immersive game and not just clicking buttons to get to porn. But these strengths are also the weakness: how hard do I really want to work for a porn game? I play them because I like story and interaction, but sometimes I don't want to sacrifice my wood for a maths puzzle.

Even with that, there's an abundance of good content once you start to "charm" (that is , forcefully submit people to your will with magic) those you come across. Want your own personal "fucktoy" (yep, that's what you call her) to wait for you in your bedroom? She's there for the taking. Want to spend the night at the house of one of your conquests? You've got your choices. Want to take out your frustrations by fucking one of your enemy's mother and sister? Well then do both of them at once.

Again though, with this ambiguous review of mine, charming takes up mana. A lot of mana. And there's a lot of people to charm. Even people that you need to charm. Getting mana is an absolute chore. Being completely honest, I made a real effort to play the game straight up and quickly found myself adding in mana and money through the (thankfully in-built) cheats. The puzzle aspect is enough in this game to not need to make mana acquisition so tedious. It distracts from the quality of the gameplay, the story, and the sex. This is the one aspect of the game that I'd suspect most players would be put off by. As you progress you come across a way to essentially generate infinite amounts of money and mana, but it would take time, and I'd honestly given up and cheated long before I discovered that option.

I can't give the game full marks, sorry. And I can't call the game "average" because it's way beyond that. If I were to judge it as a game and not a porn game I'd be sat here very impressed by it. I'd still hate the mana grind, but it would be a decent game without the porn aspect. I imagine a lot of people will try this and give up before getting anywhere good, and that's a real shame, because it is exceptional in what it has to offer as an HTML game of this type. Choices, tension, espionage, puzzles, kinks, and some straight up fucking. Not particularly into it usually, but even a bit of (fully optional, and decisions to prompt it are marked for those weak of heart) gay content kind of adds flavour and spices it up next to its rivals. Still, that mana issue...ugh...

    konabwo

i rarely give games 5 stars, usually 4 and in this case im not comfy to go with 'above average' score .

my thoughts on its sandbox side.
-clumsy navigation. im bad with street names (which probably of no help to develop some muscle memory of its locations) so i use tons of extra clicks. partly it is mitigated by teleport spell which u get at some point but ofc u need to click on phone and then its map (so at least 2 extra clicks)
that game will benifit from having interactive map or classic approach with named locations and pics (maybe with several thematic regions, like downtown for everything governmental etc) or at least extra info of what is on that street (before going there); maybe 24/7 taxi as well
-ui is not comfy enough. if i keep book/inv open on the right i cannot see time. if i use left panel to check time i cannot have access to cheat menu with time skipping. i need all those things at once without extra menus closing-opening.
-ingame cheats are alright but game's VNy nature demands having something like quests, events and other variables tweaking options.
-ingame tips are insufficient. fan-made walkthroughs seems to be tolerable until you reach some info gap or vague description or something different from results you getting and that kills lots of your gametime. you can try to use alternative w/t but no guarantee that it will clarify things. so if you feel like ragequiting - i totally get it.
-most issues emerged due to its being de facto VN. (now, surely we all know that most if not all sandboxes have quite straightforward narrative, just divided by a number of npcs but here things feel more chronological and interrelated. usually it makes vn with sbx ui only easier. here is a rare case when it is contrary)
all those routes is never a good idea as replayability of those games is rather low and non worthy of routine re-clicking (basically ud have to repeat most things, to unlock some variations, which will be perceived as a grind, unlike renpy_vns where you can just instaskip text from answer to answer)
running into gameovers or locking the content due to wrong answers is not welcomed.
sandboxers (who dont read, hence the majority of) d prefer narrative emerging out of quests ( tips, options, visuals ) not otherwise. so anything writing-orientiered is never of help when it comes to understanding of what and why is going on. it is not a minus per se but definitely not a plus.
-pics as lewd visuals are not rewarding enough (mod can help with that)

conclusion: to be enjoyable it needs significant reworking (ui and cheats optimization, vn approaches removal or mitigation) and extended tips with corresponding step-by-step w/t. rn it is somewhat playable, i think i covered more than a half of the content .maybe 2/3, hard to tell.
