This might sound weird, but the flaw with this game is that it's really a VN pretending to be something else. In A Spell For All, you wander around a town and find stuff to do only... you don't really. There's a handful of very specific things you need to do to progress the story and finding them is very difficult without following the included walkthrough. If the world you're supposed to wander is pretty much empty until you find the right scenes... why isn't the game just a VN instead?
It's really unfortunate, because I think the game concept sounds very cool and it's obvious the dev put a lot of work into the world. I like game that allow me to make significant choices about how I want to do things. However, I'm just not willing to navigate through the clunky interface in order to follow a step by step guide towards advancing in the game. Maybe the game opens up past a certain point, but I certainly didn't reach it.
