I have a question. Before I go any further, to be clear - I'm not game bashing. I'm just curious about what draws people to this game?
I tried it, and put in a few hours before it was apparent to me that if I played any further I was risking the loss of both eyes. Not from eye strain, but rather the real possibility that I'd grab the sharpest object I could find and stab myself in one and/or both eyes to end my pain
Of course I'm exaggerating but this style of game certainly wasn't for me. Here's what I didn't like: extreme grind with little reward for your time, and when you were rewarded the scenes were clunky, dated; a couple grades above pixel art, and with no feeling or life to them. I also found it difficult to know where to go, how to continue some quests, and how some tasks affected others. After I stopped playing the game I did some reading and found that following the walkthrough seems to be essential... wish I'd done that earlier. One of the reasons I played this was due to the high ratings.
So what's the appeal... is it nostalgic; harkening back to the days of Pac-Man, Frogger and Space Invaders - or is it the machine-like grind? I'm genuinely interested in knowing why people are so into this game?
