He's a successful carpenter and a pretty cool guy, I'm sure it wouldn't be hard for him to find a woman his age or younger that will appreciate him from the very start. I don't quite possibly get how anyone really likes Verena and the people you talk to in town don't have a high opinion of her, save for Claire who is supposedly her friend that talks about how sweet and caring she is but EHHHHH.... I feel like she's only seeing Verena's best side. The only positive thing I could say about Verena is that she probably works hard, but Roderick works even harder, not just in his business, but in actually trying to keep her happy since he asks MC for help.

So in short, I think it's better overall to take Verena off his hands, they'll both be happy in the end that way.

I get why her character exists, I just don't get why the person who actually knows her (Roderick) even likes her. The only reason I can think of is because he is trapped in the marriage because he doesn't know/think he can do better or he's really dedicated to the bonds of marriage.

Roderick grew up with Verena, she was his childhood friend, first Love and deepest desire.
He married her blind of love when they were both in a tight spot and looking down into the Abyss wondering wether there is light anywhere to be found.
Verena had changed while studying in Kirlic but Roderick ignored it, he even considered that he could change her to be her old self.
They both failed each other and their frustration grew, though duo to them becomeing Parents they couldn't part ways either... eventually it became all to much and Verena broke becomeing the MCs bitch and Roderick lost his blinders.

He was part of a freedom fighting group that got taken over by a sinister cult. He tried to escape when he saw the cult coming but was caught and magically enslaved against his will.
He is not really a member of the cult so much as a slave of the cult.

How is it stealing? He is earning those profits from the mine and mercs.
Also he is a demigod on the path towards ascending to godhood. Why would he do a 9-5 job?
MC is going to be a god-emperor. Won't be a problem to support a harem.

Isn't obvious? Roderick was a desperate idiot, who married the only woman pretty enough that gave two fucks about him (kinda). But the MC is not like Roderick. Verenna is his slut. He doesn't let her push him around, he turned the tables on her. Which is why I commented on the bitchy character trope. That's the likable part about her (that the MC likes ingame and Verenna fell for him because of that).

Palak follows a similar logic. But he's much more of a loser.
