It's weird how Nicole's points from the future affect her choice options from the past, doesn't really make sense.
Why not? What you were like in the past has shaped who you are today. If you smart, loyal and honest today then chances are you were at least smart and loyal in the past.
The points are basically the traits of her that we have selected and that should hold true in the past, present, and future.
Because the points we're talking about in this case chiefly concern her fidelity in relationships which is moot in the past; she's single. Relationship fidelity isn't universalizable, it's contextual.
Yet this goes further and inverts that - her behavior as someone in a relationship affects her options when single? How bonkers is that?
I sort of agree with you, but let me add to it a little bit.
It sort of depend on how you view love and lust points, For instance:
If Nicole takes the love path, it indicates that she loves her husband; however, if she takes a different path, it doesn't mean she
doesn't love her husband; rather, it simply indicates that she lacks self-control and her sex drive, lust or libido is high which has nothing to do with being in a relationship, it's who she is and that'd hold true regardless of her relationship status.
But I understand your point as it can be contradictory because if she only has love points that's out of the love and respect for her husband and is only applicable when she is in relationship but if she has more lust or a mix of love/lust points that's a different story.
True but if we view it like that, then options like cheating in her relationship would be dependent on both a high sex drive and a low love value; which is perhaps what you're mentioning with a mixed points setup.
It's unfair of me to pick a fight with you - because it's more of a general pet peeve of mine how many games have some stat which runs in opposition to love, and that stat affects both promiscuity and general sexuality. Yet the latter seems totally unrelated to love, I can picture a girl who's devoted to her bf who's a prude in bed, or the same who's a sexual dynamo.
Another example of this odd stat coupling are the Tori paths. To get the swinger game end post wedding with her, you basically have to neglect her all through prior, ignore her during bachelor party etc. To me this makes no sense. Ignoring her/treating her like shit would make her more likely to cheat on you, it wouldn't make her more likely to become a swinging couple with you. Conversely, treating her kindly wouldn't make her less likely to be willing to swing with you, but it would make her less likely to cheat.
