Pretty much. I mean, 4k a month is a lot of money to some, and not enough to survive on for others, depending on some variables. It's up to him to tell his story the way he wants it, that's out of the question. I'm more bothered by the speed with which he releases updates, especially when he announces that it might be over soon because he doesn't have the time.
For me this is more of a cost-benefit factor. Apparently it's just one developer and he gets 4000$/month. He needs 2-2.5 months for his updates. That means every update earns him 8000$. (not quite, there are certainly deductions).
I don't see the relation here. If you look at what other teams do with much less. Especially when he writes he doesn't have the time because of a side job, I don't understand the world anymore. He earns a lot of money with this project and that should be his most important topic next to his education.
Or he looks for help, because that's what the money is for. Because if he can find people now and be trained, the project could continue later. Apparently he is now looking for a programmer, you can only hope that it helps.
To blackmail the people with the threat "If I don't get much more money, the game dies". is just not proper behavior.
With what he earns, it's not presumptuous to expect an update of this size every month.
I think hiring some help could be good and definitely help with the speed of updating. Unfortunately, the way I'm reading his post, the programmer isn't there to help with the game, but instead to help create a website (don't worry, I'm sure there will be a paywall).
This game has nice looking renders (not always perfect, but very nice) and a decent plot and character development (though the writing/grammar could use some work, also a lot of the writing makes me think the dev has never been intimate with a woman, but I still enjoy it). However, my complaint has always been the same, there is so much waste in this game. The game is 3gbs (3300+ images?), but most of those images are completely useless. There is a certain extent of fluff images needed for proper scripting and development, however, the amount of time devoted to creating a 50 render scene on a lecture about the Pythagorean theorem or going to the dentist with seemingly no point or use to the story is what causes this game to lag so hard. It's like the dev goes off and gets some new assets for Daz and creates a bunch of irrelevant renders around them whether they pertain to the story or not.
I wanted to see this game succeed because, despite the crawl, I think it has a ton of potential. I know how long it takes to come up with decent looking renders and write a script, especially as a single person, it's a ton of work. However, I'm now wondering if the dev is running out of ideas of how to advance the story, if he's just in over his head, or if he's dragging things out in hopes of getting a larger following in order to make more money (instead of creating multiple shorter yet still well-developed games and building an audience over time). At this point, I think the dev is just milking his patrons, which is why I pulled my support. I'll check back in a couple of months to see if anything has changed, but I don't expect it to.
