You pose a good question, but it is really neither of the options you present.
The answer to your question is found in the first playable day. Dylan's supercilious sister Ellie is given preferential treatment in the car ride from the airport. Dylan is punished for calling Ellie a slut, while Ellie continues to call Dylan a pervert after the fight is supposed to be resolved without correction. She even suggests that Dylan should spend the trip in the trunk...and neither parent intercedes. This clearly shows how the Parker dynamic has been for a while, and not in Dylan's favor. The one masculine achievement Dylan has is his soccer prowess, and his father discounts it. The only one with a supportive soft spot for Dylan is his mother, Sophia.
Everyone has seen that Dylan was nonplussed when he was in the tub with Sophia prior to date-night. Liam was about to come in and Dylan made no effort to stop squeezing Sophia's breasts. He didn't even flinch. Sophia had to make emergency moves to prevent discovery. L&P has made it clear that Dylan would like nothing better than to prove his manhood to his father by way of Liam discovering that Sophia is now with Dylan.
I agree with you that Dylan is inexperienced and clumsy in the kitchen, he is also high-T horny and he is trying to be a manipulator. I also believe that the other clumsy manipulator (Neil) sees his own awkward moves in Dylan and has figured out what is going on. This could prove to be interesting in the future.
Request LP to take Sophia corruption with Dylan upto fingering if not sex rather waiting for the next Dylan update after 2 years to reach upto that point...LP can make it happen in this update itself....and it will make sense with respect to corruption pace if it was done with Dylan or Sam first rather with random characters.

You make interesting points though I beg to differ about Dylan wanting Liam to discover that he is with Sophia in a physical relationship. As Sophia has mentioned, if he mentions it to anyone or she gets to know, its over for him and he knows it. What I fully agree with you that he is a manipulator & it might be possible that Neil catches on to this and uses to his advantage. Now how that is work out, well we have to wait and see.

Your counter argument describes what Sophia has stipulated, not necessarily what Dylan might want. Many men will play the sycophant in order to establish or maintain a sexual relationship with a woman, and Dylan is one of these. L&P demonstrated this early on when Dylan was eager to give up his allowance and do house chores in order to have any form of intimate interaction with Sophia. I agree with you that as long as Sophia wants the intimate interactions between herself and Dylan kept a secret he will not overtly spill the beans.
However, it is clear from the teasers that he will entertain risky behavior in front of Liam and his friends. I believe that this action is satisfying that 'manly' display while at the same time satisfying Sophia's stipulation. I am confident that if there were an 'oops' moment later on (after Dylan has well consummated with Sophia), and Liam discovers the new nature of Sophia's relationship with Dylan... Dylan will not be emotionally crushed.
Dylan has already demonstrated by kneading Sophia's buns openly in the park that he wants to overtly show off his claim on Sophia with people other than Liam. This reckless behavior may well lead to that 'oops' moment described earlier.
