Do I detect a note of cynicism? We all know what the Dev needs to do but over the years it's become tedious to discuss, or even list suggestions for how we think such things might be achieved. So, now we're looking at next year for the starting segment of a playable day & a likely continuation of one PD per annum. Those who've played the types of games found in this forum usually know about Dev burnout but what about fan burnout? After all, we've all got pressures, problems etc., for which these games are meant to provide some escapism....including not having to worry about production schedules & staffing issues. I had plenty of that when I was working.

On the positive side, I'm really looking forward to Aiden's 4th task. If it's only half as good as the 3rd one, it will be great. I'm also looking towards all the remaining Aiden-haters making use of whatever exit(s) is/are provided for that particular route. It seems that whatever people feel about it, we should all be happy....for a while...in theory.
Oh for burnout, I reached that point a long time ago ( not in game time, but in real time).
Basically while waiting for the update that included the yoga event which took around 4 or 5 month.
Before that point I would imediatly download the game as soon as it was posted on this forum and play all the route on that update.

Today, I not only didn't played the last update, I don't even care enough to download it.

Is it because of the wait between updates ?
I don't think so .
There are other media where I had to wait sometimes years between releases to keep reading where things left off .
But the moment a new book, movie, game or whatever came out , I couldn't wait to come back home and immerse myself in that world.

So, what else then? This forum and those incredible discussions about milking/not milking for the hundred time that convince nobody to change their point of view (and certainly not of those arguing)?
I don't think either as I have been have sometimes following some media where the forums discussions mostly consisted of deathtreat to the author, or incredible arguments like "my favorite character is stronger than yours " or "x woman is the Best waifu and you're dumb to believe otherwise".
These has never stoped me from enjoying those story (but are quite tiresome, I'll give you that).

Maybe my tastes have changed ?
Not really. I'm still playing all type of games.
Realistic, or not, renpy or rpgm, male or female, etc.

The main reason is simply my own expectations .
I though that would be the "pinacle" of erotic, porn (or whatever it's supposed to be called) vn, in his own capacity.

No problem with the renders .
My grip is mostly on the writting.
The guy is clearly not a writter .
There's some event that are really well told, others just awful, most of the time average.

It doesn't match the renders quality, it doesn't match the long wait between update, and it certainly doesn't match the expectation I had for an author that has been discribed as a perfectionist .

To be fair, mostly people have spoken about L&P's perfectionism in respect to his rendering rather than his writing. He has spoken before in this thread about spending thirty minutes on a single render, about the same time he seemed happy that V0.130 update was near 1,000 renders.

You are not the first person to comment on the seeming drop in quality of the writing. Sometimes his dialogue can feel stilted - I presume that that is because he writes initially in German and then translates to English. One example is the scene with Andy and Cathy in the last update. We were told how they felt and what they had experienced when younger, rather than being shown it .

I am still (perhaps naively) hopeful. The writing is not classic literature by a long shot, but it is still better than 99% of the VN / games on this site. And I am still (cautiously) hopeful that he can tell the story of Sophia's accelerating corruption, without losing what was special in I the story so far.

I am nervous about his seeming focus on the 2nd side job. I personally can't play it in it's current form and I am concerned as to how he might push that particular storyline. But if I can ignore that one route and L&P can crank out smaller updates in a more timely fashion, then maybe I can enjoy continue playing the rest of forthcoming updates.

Yes - I have used a lot of conditional if statements. It could yet go all wrong. I do understand the fears and concerns that many of the long-time members contributing to this thread have had.

When he is good, he's very, very good & when he is bad, he is horrid....to paraphrase a famous children's poem. Regarding fan burnout, there are only 3 or 4 games that I still bother with. I say 3 OR 4 because in one case we wait to see if it's going to be abandoned & in another I'm finding it impossible to download the latest update.

Writing isn't as easy as it sounds & I think we all accept that. AWAM is still a cut above most games, most of the time IMO & I havn't thought to delete it, unlike a lot of stories I used to follow, including anything that goes over 6 months before the next update. At one point I thought I must be jaded to find so much of what's currently on offer not entertaining but I realised it's mainly because it's just not immersive or engaging enough for someone who first read a porn story in 1965.

I've stayed with AWAM because I'm genuinely curious about what happens next & that must be a tribute to the VN in general, including the writing. Like you, however, I stopped believing this would be the great adult 3D erotic novel of the era some time ago.

It COULD be the game of the era if it's finished. That doesn't mean it will be flawless, it just means it could be the best of its era. If you watch classic movies, they often don't hold up great to great movies of today, but that doesn't mean it wasn't a great movie for its era. AWAM's biggest downfall is that it will never be finished. Content wise I think there's a lot of positive things to point at, but the painfully slow development cycle leads to a likelyhood that it'll never be finished. That's what will keep it from being an all-time great.

I agree on your concept just in reverse. They are not making Casablanca, Wizard of Oz, Stalag 17, An Affair to Remember, Vertigo, One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest , or even a Christmas Story with awesome Ralphie (just to scratch the surface). They are using nice flares and explosions though and redoing every thing they can just ... worse! IMO of course.

Note: I can be convinced that anything with Evangeline Lilly:love: in it is fantastic. Just Sayin'!

Now for most games there is a torrent link almost immediately. You can download that way even 20GB games.
A big problem with splitting PD 13 on 10 parts will be that for many players there will be completely empty updates.Or maybe even a whole playable day.And with the speed we are getting the days, that can mean more than year of waiting.

I don't think the split is causing such a problem. If anything it solves the issue of waiting for the event you want play at a very miniscule level. Like previously until the 5 events of the update were all complete we could play nothing. Suppose if this was the case for PD 12, someone just wants to play the Ellie Sophia scene which is the first scene, now once it's ready they get to play it. Instead of having to wait for all the other events of the update to he completed which they don't care about. It also makes people less impatient.

Like I'm sure most would remember, how back during v0.130 there were people who wanted the update to he released without the Dylan event itself. Now with this format, this is exactly what happens.

Also even if there are updates where a person doesn't get anything, the wait for the next update is short. On the grander scheme if there is a character who does not have an event anyways on the day, you would not get any content no matter the update format.
The wait for the update is not that short. Some people are believing we will get weekly or on 2 weeks update, but that won't happen. We will be lucky if we get an update on 4 weeks. And I mean 4 weeks counting both the time he is working and not working on the update.Anyone expecting PD 13 will done in something like 100-150 days must wake up.
And I am really sorry for the people who were waiting for the content that was shut down and converted to DLC.
DLC that we probably will never see.Unless he do it way before the end of the game.Which will make no sense.
After all he decide to add DLC in order to make that content much later, after the game is completed.

I don't know anyone who expected an update in 2 weeks. Whoever was expecting that was definitely living in a fantasy. Only the update format has changed not the no. Of developers or his speed.

The last update had 4 major events it took 4.5 months. So a simple math for each update should not be less that 1 month.

I can't speak for everyone else but I don't believe this playable will be anywhere close to completion in 150 days. That's once again a wishful fantasy and utter foolishness to expect.

I wasn't even talking about speed in that post. I just said that we will get to see events a little earlier as we don't have to wait for all the events to be completed first.
