That's where the duality of this thread lies. When it comes to the writing of Sophia people here criticise everything about Sophia's writing, be it her decisions, he not recalling all past events in every scene, her dressing choices, what she says, how she is stupid, how her behaviour is stereotypical. How anything even remotely close to non consensual is considered a such a wrong thing in the game. All this desire for unique writing, logic and moral compass in regards to Sophia and this game.
Then the same people say that no one cares and would rather want all male characters to be presented as sex friends, who only think of sex 24/7 and act like total perverts. It is genuinely hypocritical when people who are fine with such negative stereotype and poor writing act extremely critical of anything happening in this game.
Anyways, i have learnt it is pointless to talk about good character writing, understanding the psychological decisions one would make, explaining the limitations and how the numerous theories floating around are only good as theories and thier practical implementation is not feasible. Everyone sticks to what they believe and i have never seen anyone change perspective based on the discussions about any of the scenes, explanations about the character motivations and creative decisions or the analysis is all a waste of time as even when people accept your point one day, the next day they are back to criticising the same thing and the same points when no change in their thought process. So going forward I'll just try to avoid any discussions about any of things in the game. I'll express what i think occasionally and not bother with anything else.
I think some of the F95 fans here fall into the trap of thinking that the writing for Sophia is bad because of the options that they are presented with - which may not include the options they want when they want them.
For example, saying the writing is bad because Sophia would never let Dylan grab her ass, breasts, etc. ignores the choices made to get there.
If you are a Sam only hetero fan, then 'Your' Sophia had minimal romantic/sexual interaction with Dylan and maximized Sam's opportunities to be with Sophia.
This Sophia has So much more going on with Sam than she does with Dylan... because that is the path they chose.
If you are a Dylan fan, regardless of how you feel about Sophia and Sam, then 'Your Sophia' has made choices that maximized Dylan's opportunities to advance a romantic/sexual relationship with Sophia.
I think the writing does a good job of allowing each of us the option to advance Sophia's story and relationships as we choose - albeit - Very Slowly...
Writing and maintaining branching paths in a story as big as AWAM is a complex undertaking!
This path management will only get more complex as other branches occur: the Dylan/Marie path -- will it end the Sophia path (likely) or offer the opportunity to create a polyamorous path with Sophia or Claire (less likely but the Sophia/Dylan/Marie throuple would be So Hot - my personal thought).
Does the Ellie/Logan path end or does Ellie forgive him and perhaps persuade Sophia to join them (once as a special gift to Logan or more than that)?
Do the Dylan and Sam paths have the chance to collide, taking Sophia to France (Eiffel Tower) -- Anathema to the Sam only fans but it is a potential intersection ...
... of those two paths.
None of these paths will be the equivalent of a deep and abiding love story like Anna Karenina (across the millions of human written works created since Tolstoy published Anne Karenina, how many are her equal or better?), but no AVN creator has the time (and resources) to create this level of love story as well as adding in the adult content that is almost always 'reading between the lines' for the classic love stories.
While the progression of AWAM has slowed to that of an old train slowly chugging its way across the Siberian tundra, I believe that L&P is doing a decent job writing the paths for Sophia, Dylan, and Ellie.
