I think that people complaining about this have not really worked in Daz before. As someone who has struggled to make a good version of Sophia on the newer generations (G3 really is outdated) I can tell you it is very hard to do well. Her textures have problems in more than one area on her body (on her inner thighs the most) and I'm sure it's now taking out of the development time to overcome those issues. Either with lightning or angles in Daz or with postwork in Photoshop. Unlike the Dylan update, I don't think this is a waste of time, it's a one-time deal that will improve the quality of the main character that we all love. There's also a chance that it will reduce future development time, as the flaws in the current skin won't have to be covered.
I do think that it would have been easier for him to hire a professional for this. There are people that do textures for a living and one could easily be payed a few hundred bucks at most to improve the existing texture without changing the look. He could even contact the original creators as they have the basis for the texture. That's what I would have done in his place but still, the idea of improved textures on her is one I am happy about.

LP himself changed the gen3 skin a long time ago, that it began to look much better than Adora’s original model, what’s the problem now, that he’s forgotten how to do it? I thought he knew how to work with textures, if this is not the case, let him pay a competent texter, who will rework Adora’s skin into a new version, with a better skin resolution, etc.!

Gen9 is so crude and crooked that i don’t know how anyone can work with it, the most functional now is Gen8.1!

He is making a new Sophia, he is improving her texture. I know he already did some work on that as it looks better than the original but if you look in the fan-art thread in some of the sex scenes you can see where her texture is kind of bad (especially her thighs).
Compared to some of the other things he is doing to delay the process, this really isn't a bad one. It's a one time thing that will improve Sophia for the next whoever knows how many updates. As I mentioned earlier, I think he should/could have hired a professional to do it. But I completely agree that doing it is the right thing.

Regarding his vision or whatever you want to call it and the fact that he is selling something: if you take the base concept of Patreon, being derived from the earlier years artists needing patrons, he is not selling anything. He is an artist, and if people like the work he does, they can support him so he can keep on doing what he does, the way he wants to do it. You don't like it, you don't support him, it's as simple as that. Since I don't like his development time and the fact he is not hiring help to get it done faster, I won't support him but it seems plenty of people do.
