VN - Ren'Py - Abandoned - Above the Clouds [v0.75] [Mundo Games]

A unique game with a comedic atmosphere that doesn't take itself too serious. Perhaps if you are into more serious tones in stories this won't be for you but to me it was a great concpet that was well-executed. I genuinely enjoyed the character interactions/dynamics and the flow of the story felt natural enough. The character renders were beautiful and each heroine has their own unique quarks and personality that makes you attached to them. I would one of the few downsides is that the h-scenes are pretty mediocre as they are extremely short and have subpar writing but the rest of the game makes up for that. This game already has a good amount of content and I'm excited to see where it goes in the future.

You likely either will struggle or not be able to fap to this simply cuz you'll be too busy laughing your ass off. Who would've thought porn can make a fun comedy. While I wish there were thicc heroines, I do enjoy the variety. Only true problem I got is the youngest one who looks WAY too much like an actual minor (she looks 14 to me) and honestly isn't even cute....like a living porcelain doll. F--king hilarious character tho, which is the saving aspect of her.
Best part....is some of the "bad choices" are honestly not really bad but can have a HILARIOUS result. Honestly don't mind choices that have zero effect on the story if they can make me laugh my ass off

This VN is fantastic. The comedy is great and the models are nice too. There is an "Onii-chan" moment and it made me cough up water. I find that mixing in comedic moments in adult VN really adds life to the story. The story doesn't always have to be serious or too-much-on-the-nose for the bit that it is going for.

If I had a gripe it would be to make the younger sister embody the cute aspect a bit more, maybe make her chest a bit smaller. That's just a preference though, and I understand she's supposed to be the MC's twin so it makes sense. Overall, looking forward to seeing it finished.

How much do you like your porn with ridiculous comedy?

Well during the non-porn scenes, (and sometimes during), comedy is laced into this AVN through out. I haven't even finished the current content, but I had to do this review now! (Else I may get tired, and never review it.)

For those of you that know the Zucker Brothers movies ("Airplane!", "Kentucky Fried Movie", and "Naked Gun" Series....That is what this is in an AVN.

- A plot, that as far as I can tell, is bonkers. Hilarious sight gags, with accompanying sound effects! If the MC doesn't listen to his cast of NPC's the world could very well end. His own Father might be involved.
- Very unique and somewhat insane characters
- Plenty of H scenes. Dev really seems to want to have anal sex, The MC at least, is obsessed. Yet as of where I left off for the night, has only happened once.
- Fantastic Character Renders. No Beach ball sized boobs or horse dicks. Thank you Mundo! He even makes light of other VN's Giant horse cocks in the beginning.
- Slow burn. MC doesn't get an sex scene till almost 45 mins into the VN. Incest is there with the patches, but still takes time and proper choices to get there. (In my first play-through).

Highly recommended as something to relax and laugh to, and can even get a fap in the first hour. Great word play, dialogs, and even animated!! Solid 9.5 out of ten. (The negative 0.5 are for the jokes that didn't land well. But no joke pleases everyone.)

This game genuinely surprised me. I thought it was going to be the usual smut visual novel where you only play it for the porn. Was I WAY wrong. The animations are top quality smooth, the renders are absolutely gorgeous, every character is different in their own unique way, and the story is phenomenal so far. Keep in mind I haven't finished the game yet, but it is definitely a must finish. Also, the humor is top notch. I haven't laughed like this at a game or media in a while. I highly recommend that you play this game.

Rating v0.61 (I haven't completed all available content yet, though):
Story: 90. "Quirky" isn't usually my cup o' tea when it comes to AVNs, but Mundo Games has actually made me laugh in multiple scenes so far. The supernatural aspects have been as much tongue-in-cheek as critical to the storyline, but as silly as some scenes can be, it never seems to go over the top. The only questionable aspect I've had so far is how unexplainably easy the MC finds it to hook up with whichever woman he chooses to have the hots for. Continuity seems to be pretty good for the story branches.
Originality: 70. Hot mom. Questionable father figure. Bitchy older sister. Cutesy younger (barely) sister. Nerdy sidekick. (Lesser) Demons. (Possible) Angels. What I'm saying is, lots of typical tropes are embedded into this game. But they're put together more creatively than usual, at least. For instance, the father figure is actually a not-insignificant part of the story line, and (maybe) isn't a huge antagonist!
Characters: 90. Personalities shine through very clearly in this game! The MC might let his lower brain drive a lot of his thoughts, but he at least contributes to conversations with the other characters.
Renders: 90. Beautiful renders. Few things stand out jarringly, like Tim's hair and some of the FCs' pubes, and none of the characters seem to be reskins of characters from other popular games. Ember's tattoos are impressive!
Sound: 80. Various background music accompanies a lot of the scenes that fits the vibe ,but otherwise sounds like elevator music. Relevant sound effects pop up every once in a while, adding to the immersion.
Gameplay: 25. Solely choice-based so far, as is typical for most RenPy AVNs. A lot of those choices make you go back afterward and make another choice instead, exposing the illusion of choice in those cases (although, at least those usually are accompanied by more great renders, rewarding the player for experimenting). Still, though very little gameplay involved. Would be nice to see some sort of puzzle or skill game somewhere with rewards tied to performance or something.
Performance: 100. Low hardware requirements, no need to buy that new video card to operate the .exe file.
Bugs: 100. No glitches observed yet.
Animations: 85. I'd typically rate this lower purely because of the simplistic application, but the developer(s) have likely studied under Matt Stone and Trey Parker, given their incredible talent with low-fi animations. Well done!
Voice Acting: 05. I think a crying sound effect accompanied one scene, but no actual voice acting included.
Grammar: 80. Some noticeable grammar mistakes that may be chalked up to translation (not sure if dev is native English speaker or not) or just plain oversight.
Amount of content: 61. This is an arbitrary score based solely off of the version count. Since I'm not through with what's available yet, I can't give this an honest rating yet, but I've been at the game for a few hours so far and haven't reached the end yet.

a game that starts ok but the full bore silliness quickly overstays its welcome

This is a weird review to write, because despite giving the game 4 stars I didn't finish the current update and have no intention of playing again. And that's because of the story and tone of the game.

This VN seems to be written with a "comedy first" approach which means that things making sense is secondary to things being funny. That leads to a lack of consistent logic within the world; you never know what's gonna happen next. And for some that's fine, but for me it's not. The fact that the tone is always comedic cheapens any emotional moments because no-one takes anything seriously, add to that the randomness of the plot and it's just not something I want to invest my time into. There are also some grammar issues that seem to get worse with time.

At the same time, however, giving Above the Clouds anything less than 4 stars would feel disingenuous on my part, because everything other than what I stipulated in the previous paragraph is top notch. And I do mean everything: the sound design, the renders, the models, the animations; it's all on par with or above anything I've ever seen. Seriously impressive. It's a shame that the tone and story ruin it for me.

Bottom line is: know what you're getting into. It's pretty obvious from the raving reviews that came before my own that what bothers me doesn't bother many others. That means that so long as you like the "comedy first" approach and general lack of consistency (or at the very least don't mind it) this is one of the best games you'll ever play. Just wasn't the case for me.

Renders are top notch. But what actually surprised me was the quality of dialogues between characters. Also humor doesn't feel forced and makes you laugh, while getting off lol.
I wouldn't say the story is original but it's well done and finally the app performance is solid, no stutters or lag.

I played a good while and was disappointed.


Decisions made during the game do not matter and so you end up as the author assumed in a few places are "funny" insertions and return to the choices that are imposed.

Forcing relationships and seeing scenes with characters you don't want.

"Humor" to the fullness of the category D comedies of the 90s lacks backing laughs.

Graphically and sonically it gives a good deal so normally I would give 3 stars, but in my opinion games of this type should have an obligatory kinetic novel tag.

I regret the electricity and time I wasted on this "game".

This game has nice visuals and beautiful girls in it. But I don't understand what the dev wants to achieve with the nonstop goofy acts and jokes. I mean I get it, he wants the game to be funny, I mean HA HA HA, it's so funny, look at me laughing HA HA.... But seriously, you can't expect people to always laugh regardless of the situation can you ? Like the time MC's sister (step) got deceived and signed the job contract in the bar and got blackmailed and threatened to do lapdance in a stage wearing revealing dress. Now this is a serious stuff in every way, but the characters can't stop being goofy about it. I have not played the game all the way through and don't know how much more funny mess there is to it, but my guess is it doesn't stop. Also there are many scenes like the one I mentioned, where it makes little to no sense at all just because the dev though he can't stop being funny, like ever. In short, this game is a 4+ star material, but I'm giving it a 3 star as a joke, is it not funny? I mean, come on now, don't take it SERIOULY.

This is one of the most absurd and whimsical game on this website with a humorous tone throughout the game and that is a good thing. It can be too much if you are used to serious games but you will get used to it trust me. Some people will get tired of the humor and rate this game lower no doubt, I think it is a matter of taste. It is one of the few games that can make me smile and chuckle while playing, but I think dev can knob the goofiness down a notch to reach a wider audience (just a recommendation).
Overall, it goes for simple goofy comedy with basic writing and a plot. It is refreshing to play laidback games like these not trying too hard and striving for something not achievable. Renders and models are a blast. Girls are gorgeous and hot. Sex animations are decent too so all of them combined makes this a hot game. I like the fact that dad is a cool character even he seems like the antagonist right now.

TLDR: This game is absurd. This game is fappable hot. This game is good looking. This game is goofy funny. A must play.

Great game so far, models and gfx are good, music is fitting and silly/lighthearted. The style and way it is presented to the player is catchy in different. The dev clearly made some effort to emphasize things like the sister shopping and bouncing between isles. Little things like that including the humour in the dialogue is good, I enjoy that its not brainless and actually has some forethought to it.

This is one of best Adult VNs i have played. It hillarious as fuck. I laughed so hard at so many point. It's unique in how they used simple memes to make it so much funny to go through.
Really good game, recommended to everyone

This seems to be a love it or hate it V/N, I wasn't impressed.

Parts were humorous, some not so much and some were over done. I've been a writer of stories for several years now and one thing a writer should know is when not to over do it.

The running cute joke with Hanna over stayed it's welcome. She's cute, I agree and we get it so let's move on. It was like beating a dead horse.

The Bum joke also over stayed it's welcome and quickly grew stale.

The demon thing was just weird for the sake of adding in something weird which isn't a good enough reason. It wasn't witty or even satire.

It isn't often I run into a character I actually want to see killed off ( Looking at you Lucas in DMD and Sunshine Love) but I really wanted to see Ember hit by a bus or something. Her whole schtick was annoying.

If you're going to make people go through a lot of stuff or jump through hoops then the pay off needs to be worth it and there wasn't enough content with Lucy, Hannah, or mom to make it worth it, especially Hannah. Somehow the Dev even made the sex scene with Lucy in the woods less than sexy.

This really had some some good opportunities but simply failed to deliver.

I understand that Above the Clouds may not be to everyone's taste, but for me, it has everything I look for in a good game, and then some. The art is truly amazing, the environments are well-designed, the lighting looks nice, and the clothing and characters are all rendered with great attention to detail.

In terms of writing, I know that some players may not enjoy the game's sense of humor, but I am a big fan of random, absurd comedy, and there is plenty of it to be found in the game. Additionally, I find the relationships between the siblings in the game to be wholesome and heartwarming, particularly the relationship between the father and his children. The story itself is intriguing and well-written.

Overall, I believe that Above the Clouds is a truly special game, and I believe that it stands out among others in the genre. While some games may have better sex scenes or more taboo elements, they often fall short in other areas. Above the Clouds, on the other hand, is top-tier in almost every way, and I have to commend Mundo Games for creating something so polished and well-crafted.

• Parodies VN cliches, but also has much more going for it

• Character's personality is already set for you
• Many behaviors are unavoidable

Overall:
This is an incredibly fun and entertaining comedic visual novel where the characters are all over the top and nothing is serious. Think of comedies more in the style of a goofy anime or a Leslie Nielsen-ish movie rather than a sitcom. If you enjoy those types of comedies and I guess, wish they had more sex (I apologize if I just made you think of naked Leslie Nielsen) , then you should try this game out.

* Although I did list some cons, they did not influence my rating as much as they normally would due to the style of this visual novel.

I've tried this 3 times because i forgot how stupid the humor is in this game. The game really doesn't take it self serious. The third time trying this i thought i'll stomach the bad humor to get to the sex scenes and i just couldn't i wanted to pull my hair out that it was so stupid. I wanted to try this because Incest, Harem sounded like a good combination. And that part seemed fine till you Slut your sister out at a club with other men which is a big NO NO for me and other incest lovers. Dialog is iffy 3/5 renders are 3/5 story is 0/5 Over all i just couldn't get past the bad humor and don't get me wrong i like comedy but this is stupid not comedy and if you can get past that then you have to slut your sister out to other men. You can't AVOID.

Do you know Scary Movie? Take it, mix it with various adult games and you will get "Above the Clouds". Good idea or not, I don't know, I found it heavy at first, then the game managed to get me a few smiles. The story/game itself is linear, there are choices, but they are more here to be funny.

Strong points.
+ A big work on animations and model of the characters.
+ Can be really funny. (Make the wrong choices.)

Weak points.
- It's good to be funny, but when it's absolutely all the time, after a while it doesn't become funny at all, on the contrary it can even get annoying and skip dialogues like I did.
- Choices are useless, they are there to serve as comedy, otherwise, their impact is very minimal.

Above the Clouds, can be funny for some and not at all for others, there are qualities, we also feel that the game has a certain energy, but this energy is lost in a too much mix of jokes that serves more to divide than anything else. Shame. 3/5
