This game really got to me. I loved the characters, they were well developed and you cared about what happened to them, which was a sign of good writing. Then there was that ending... I hated it, but I hated it only because the author done some good writing which made me care... so... it's because of his good writing that made me pissed off at him over that ending. Kind of funny how that works.

I was probably more effected by this as I lost my own wife back in 2021 so...

Sorry for your loss. I can't even imagine the pain for losing a wife in real life.

But even without having such an experience IRL... I was really emotionally involved, and angry with the dev for not giving at least ONE possible good ending and... PUTTING ON THE USER THE BURDEN OF SUCH A CHOICE??? WTF dude?

I stopped playing after that point.

Started a new game trying to avoid the psycho in every possible way... but that scene was unavoidable...

Then I started again trying to pursue one LI only... no way... BOTH GIRLS were FORCED to come live with me!

Just fuck you, DPC!

---

I'm grateful I downloaded it from here. I was motivated to buy it to support the Dev, but I decided that I won't support him for something that made me feel bad. PURPOSELY.

Now I'm following his current project Being a DIK.
IF it has possible good endings, then I'll buy it after having played it. If not, I will not buy it.

----

The whole point of a VN (the one with player choiches) is that the player can choose between multiple story development.

In Acting Lessons a lot of choiches are fake choiches. With no real impact on the story.

If a Dev wants to narrate HIS story, he should be honest and write a fucking Kinetic Novel (those where the user has no choices, but only has to click to advance).

This game definitely needs a remastered version.
At the current pace, the dev's current game is projected to get the complete status some time past the year 2030, so if he ever plans to remaster this game, he'd better delay that endeavor. LOL

And 2030 is probably wishful thinking as it was almost 2 years since the last update of his current game. I don't normally complain about such things but... thank God for other games.

Hi there Night Hacker,

My proficiency in English has (probably a lot of) room for improvement. What I really meant is that there's no way that the game gets completely done during this decade and my best guess is that it will get that stage some time during the next one.

I wasn't complaining either. I was merely stating the obvious. Thanks God that I have a lot of things to occupy my time on.

DPC is visible milking, yeah, but he delivers a huge ass episode each year. Hmm.. And it looks like it's near the ending.. you chose the LI for the MC or become single and stay with an harem of hoes (with it's seems you have to pick one of them in the end), from ep 9 - 12 have a high dose of drama, not like Acting Lessons, but still, DPC is showing his claws. The MC's ex-girlfriend wants him back; you can make this decision at the end of the current episode, so I think the AVN is near the end.

I'm not defending a dev with 13k patrons, dude is probably millionaire and could delivery being a dick in some months, but anyway, annually I play a full episode of his current project.
As I said above, I was not complaining or criticizing the dev. I'm sure as hell I wouldn't be able to deliver as he does. The game is gargantuan and he is doing a fantastic job all by himself.

so the endings is suck???? aw

There are two approaches to the "philosophy" of Acting Lessons.

According to the Dev and to his fans, it is good writing because life is hard and we don't have control on most things on our own real life, so this is a "life lesson" and who doesn't like it is a snowflake.

According to me and to many other "snowflakes", if the Dev wanted to tell HIS story without giving the player any chance to get a real good ending, he should have been honest and have written a so called "Kinetic Novel" (that particular kind of VN with no choice at all, in which the audience is not a "player" but simply a "reader" that can just click to advance to next dialogue).
Instead he chose to give the player a bunch of fake choices (i.e. choiches that have no real impact on the main plot).
No matter what you choose: avoiding the psycho is impossible thus it is impossible to avoid the arson, and also it's impossible to just pursue only one of the two main girls. No matter what you choose: you are forced to have them both to stay at your place. And then you are forced to choose which one to save and which one to let be burned alive. This is not a "realistic" way to represent real life, because in RL if you meet two girls in need there's NO WAY you are FORCED to let them live at your place and in the unlucky (and unlikely) case of an arson you may be not able to save both of them but there's NO WAY you are FORCED to NOT EVEN TRY. In real life you can decide to try to save both of them and maybe as a cosequence you die trying, but there's NO WAY you are forced to NOT EVEN TRY.
So, yes, in my opinion this kind of writing does suck, and it's just sadism against the reader.

Thank you for providing the full story summary. But are his other works like this too? I’ve just started playing his game called "being a dik"

From episodes 1 to 8, it's just fun and games; from 9 to 13, things start to get dramatic. Seems DPC is aiming to happen some real shit in the being a dik plot in future updates.

DPC likes dramatic/dark themes. I think he promised that in Being a DIK the dark/dramatic themes will be not as heavy as in Acting Lessons, but they will be there.

At the end of BaD Episode 10 there's a quite dark cliffhanger... I don't want to spoiler much.

I hope that BaD will not reveal itself as sadistic toward the player as Acting Lesson is, but if you're looking for no dark/dramatic themes at all, then Being a DIK is not what you're looking for.

It always amuses me when people foreign to English thinks their proficiency is bad when most of the time it is better than native speakers. (y)

Maybe he will make an avoidable tragedy? What busts everyone's balls in Action Lessons is the linear, unavoidable tragedy.

Hey uh guys/gals, question:

This game is one of my favorite ever...
(I have only one issue with it, but I won't go into detail now, but suffice to say, I LOVE BOTH Megan AND Melissa way too much, for the game to be able to please me 100%)
I've never played "Being a DIK", put off trying it because of time constraints and seeing how vast it is (I already have 10s of other games (adult or not) that I stopped playing half-way and need to finish)... Anyway lol,
OK I should shut up now, MY QUESTION IS -> is "Being a DIK" in any way similar to "Acting Lessons" (other than the quality and effort put into it, from what I can see from the stellar ratings)? I'll likely play it at some point anyway, but I don't want to have wrong expectations either and dislike it for wrong reasons.

Edit: I just noticed some other people asking this as well. I feel less alone now. lol

i fear for my romance choices in DiK based off the ending of this game.
That mod would require both a total rewriting of the dialogues and a total redoing of the renders after the arson scene...

...the modder not only would need to be skilled in using DAZ but also would need to have access to the models DPC used... very unlikely, sorry.
