And here we are, after another week of Steam being annoying (asking for a full save with everything unlocked and access to every single scene), me messing up rendering parameters and my PC constantly either rendering or being used to pose more scenes to render.

Day 1 is almost complete, missing only a short dialogue with Mom and some potential cuddles. (For reference, the Demo will go up to the end of Day 2, the longest one, and the full first chapter up until the morning of Day 4).
There wouldn't be much to talk about other than "look at this! LOOK AT IT!", so, as I've said last week, let's talk about paths and stats.

I've mentioned before, in the 1st year anniversary post to be specific, how instead of the binary mock her/apologize choice that splits AR1, this game will have 3 paths that will change based on where the MC decides to end up living.
This is not TECHNICALLY true, as the "main" plotline will remain the same, but what will change is how it's experienced.
Without spoiling, you can imagine that a sorority will react differently to an issue compared to some girls living off campus.

The other thing different from AR1 are the Legend and Empress points.
These will change some dialogues, some options and when certain relationships get unlocked... or at least that's the plan.
The idea is that leaning more towards Legend or Empress will lead to "faster" relationships with certain girls and delay others, but I'm still not sure on how to implement it properly.
This would be a non-issue for romance games, but we are building an harem here.

Anyway, that is going to be a problem for future me since the first relationship comes free of charge in chapter 1.

One thing that won't be coming back are the top/bottom points.
Look, I thought it was going to be a fun little thing that would only make me do a few more renders and maybe change some lines of dialogue.

In truth, it fucking destroyed my mental, making me dread writing lewd scenes 'cause I DON'T KNOW HOW TO WRITE FOR A BOTTOM and it just didn't work in relationships with girls with a defined "alignment".
Let's just accept the fact that this new MC is either a switch or too horny to care.

The Demo for Actual Roommates 2 is coming out sooon! How soon? Here's the dates!


(Cooler Cats already have it)

The demo covers a biiiiig chunk of Chapter 1, about 700 renders. I'll work hard to get the full 1st chapter in your hands as soon as possible and, when Chapter 1 is completed, the Demo will become available for free for everyone.

And yes, the release of the Demo will coincide with AR1's Steam release (what a coincidence!)



Now, for two less happy things.

Number 1: per Steam policy, starting tomorrow the PC version of AR1 will no longer be free on Itch. I will get a free demo of it out on the page later next week, but if you are not planning on getting the Steam version and need a copy of AR1 I suggest you get on over at

Number 2: there's going to be a change in the subscription tiers of this page.

If you are already subbed, nothing will change for you, but the "Couch Surfers" tier will be locked starting tomorrow, meaning that no new member will be able to join at that tier.

There will be a new cheap option that will have the same benefits at 2$ instead.

The reasoning for this is quite simple: after Patreon's cut, the payment processor's cut and the currency exchange I end up getting very, very little, to the point that even Patreon itself has been nagging me to reprice the tier.

Please note, that the Steam Version has some permission issues on Linux.

I never had that with any of the other builds of AR before. Even though I made the .sh executable (all previous versions where executable before), it says "permission denied".

I am not the most savvy Linux dude, so this is where my luck ends.

When this happens you must also mark a file lib/py3-linux-x86_64/ActualRoommates as executable (besides the .sh file).
This is also true for other RenPy games, in case it happens there.

If you continue running Renpy VNs you get off the internet (not that there's anything wrong with that) you'll get PLENTY of reminders. ;)

This is correct. When I am making a file from Renpy, I choose the Linux and Windows option... on a Windows PC... I make a Linux version personally to let more people enjoy it on their platform, but yea... You are right.

Also, Hanako has been busting ass on things... If you like his work, drop a friendly line... When a dev goes to work, its nice to see some appreciation. I know this from personal experience.
