They are avoidable to certain degree: you can avoid events that trigger such things. Try out "Town start", it's literally a setup for family life.

It is still in Alpha state.

There are 2 regions: village and town. Village content is quite close to what I would like to see in the final release.
Town content is rather scarce. I'm planning to add more "meat", when I finish the skeleton, i.e. add one more region I'm working at for 0.7.

There seems to be a bug with the Viguor, making you wake up at 1 less than your max (2/3), and making it impossible to leave the village if you start there

nevermind, i figured it out. You only regain a max of 2 viguor per day when going to sleep well fed.
