any way to run the game better? i am trying to run at 1080p but its way too laggy
my specs are

ryzen 5 5600
16gb ram
i currently have the game installed in my HDD, should i try to run it on my SSD?

SSD would only reduce loading times, not performance. Are you using DHH or graphics mod? I didn't use DHH for long, so I can't talk about that for now ...
Your speccs seem low, but should run still ok.
For GM a few things to look at first:
Skybox: go with the Unity Default Skybox (UDS). AIS has it'S own sky and with the UDS you'll get better ambience effects like a moving sun, nice dawn and sunset , ...
SSS:
If needed for skins,only have it enabled for character, not default, map,...
Blurr: between 0.5 and 2 (try and see if FPS are changing)
Dither: OFF or below 1.5
Post Processing: not important for performance.
Settings: disable Real Time Reflection Probes
pulse reflection probes: only if you want, but increase the refresh time
Just for performance: there should be a plugin Main Game Optimization. Some of those setting help also a lot when your machine is slower.
PS: I was fiddling around quiet a bit lately and trying to find a nice setup for AIS, preparing an upload of the settings for lighting (With Screenshots). That includes some plugin settings, because it's not all coming from GraphicsMod. Not at home these days, so it still has to wait a bit ...

What Herbmetaru said. Also disable shadows or set them to minimal is a performance boost. How many girls are in game active? Set them to minimal 4 and you could also try to create a standard girl without any used addon/shaders with normal body types and play then to see if its one of the addons that causes lags.

Not for the game. For Studio there is a mod called "Gifplane" in the optional mods folder that allows you to play gifs and resize them etc. but never tried it, to be honest.
Maybe ask the modders in

My machine is 10 years old and yes, there is some stuttering every now and then. But there are some options to reduce that ...
I'm just working on an explanation about graphics, that includes a bit of performance as well.
PS: depending on the # of girls running around,I'm fine with 20 - 30 FPS

A guide to set up graphics for AI
I'm done
A few asked for it and I hope there are a few more that ghet some helpful information.I decided to go for a PDF as format, so who likes it can just keep it as reference and put it in their Game directory or somewhere else ...
Besides the guide, I'll also attach the presets and the Skybox I use. You can extract that directly in the game root and it should be in the right place.
Note: at this point I recommend a backup of your settings folder(just copy it: <gameroot>\BepInEx\config). If you don't like it or even just for later, you can just delete the changed folder and rename config - copy back to copy to go back to your current settings.
I suggest to first follow the guide and use the settings of the mentioned plugins. It will take a few minutes but in my opinion it's worth it. After that you can read thenotes about the GraphicsMod settings or just use one ofthe presets. I spread it in a dark, medium and light setup for an easier switch. I guess I don't have to mention, that ofc you can and should try and adjust the settings to your liking (or completely revert it...)
And now I'm asking for a favor: I really like feedback, pro and con. I hope to find some brave souls, that go through the whole thing and test it out. Questions, suggestions, ... facepalms... I am open for it.

Yes. Ingame press F1 to bring up the plugin-manager. Then type girl and look for AI_ExtraGirls (mine is a bit old).I can only add up to 4 girls. Is there a way to increase it to 10?

You need to restart the game then go to a terminal an put in the girls. Since the save files are modified, just save if you're done.

Great work, Herbmetaru!
I couldn't test all settings because I'm using an older version of the graphics mod (GM), but I'm sure this guide can be a great help for newcomers as well as old hands to tweak their game! It should be mentioned in the OP in my opinion.
As a small criticism of the guide, maybe a quick mention of what you mean by DHH and GM as for example, some new players don't know that they can open the graphics mod with F5 and so on.

because as I updated to the latest version with SSS and stuff it was eating too much fps even in chara maker so I downgraded it (as a result I can't use hanmen shader).
Edit: It's not even listed in the github releases
0.4.0 is the oldest release
