Agree, I cant really explain, but it just takes me out of "immersion" everytime I realize that the male is a actual character, like, I get why people dont like when artists use hilichurls but I honestly prefer them over any male character that has a "presence", there's already so much art with Aether in the internet. I really hope he doesnt start using the male dreamseeker (god I hate self insert MCs) in Honkai Vids.
This doesn’t make much sense...you prefer faceless men but hate self-insert characters? How would an established character take you out of your immersion?

It's easier to project yourself as a faceless man having sex with your favorite waifu than it is with an established character.
Not everyone likes the idea of Aether banging his harem of girls, or being the ladies' personal fucktoy. It's likely they want to imagine it was them in that position instead.
Also, people have their own headcanons on certain pairings. I would definitely enjoy watching a Rita x Captain sex video because it involves one of my headcanon relationships. However, I wouldn't get the same level on enjoyment watching a Mei x Adam sex video because it conflicts with my headcanon of the two having a parental relationship.

You're saying that even Aether isn't self-inserty enough? Fair enough. I'm still a stranger to all this anime gacha game stuff. I've never needed to insert myself into a character to enjoy a fictional relationship.
