Yeah, had a look at the code, and it's kind of obvious it's their first try with renpy. Beyond what you mentioned, they're recycling the same persistent variable to track decisions, and perl_love_points is initialised but only Perl_love_points is used later on (triggering errors). Hopefully they fix the code sooner rather than later, not a big fan of reworks and broken saves deep into the game's cycle.
As for the story itself, it looks intriguing, but I am not sure where it's headed. There are some hints to (hopefully optional) sharing, I'm a bit cautious at this point.

Many games have an option to turn NTR on or off.
