Rating for [v0.6.1]
Ohhhh boy where do I even start?
Pros: I’ll start off by saying that the writing in this game saves it from eternal damnation. I know that many fans of Amity Park despise the writing and condemn it as the worst aspect of the game, but I personally enjoyed it immensely. The non-animated art in this game (characters) is phenomenal; Maddie Fenton is soooooooooooooo hot it’s not even funny. The interactions between her and the protagonist (dialogue-wise) are enjoyable. I’d argue that 95% of the stand-still art is great, with only some slight flaws. The story is great; somebody will always mention that the plot is “unoriginal”, but that doesn’t make it any less enjoyable for me... because what story is truly original? Originality is only a problem for me when the game is overly-generic, and this game is far from that. The writer does a great job giving me the emotions I’m supposed to feel for each character individually; I’m madly in love with Maddie Fenton... MADLY IN LOVE, I think Jack Fenton is a cringey tool, I absolutely hope Vlad Masters gets his head cut off by a guillotine, etc. I wasn’t originally a fan of Sam Manson, but somehow her art and story arc just made me fall for her; I guess I get turned on by goth chicks now
... All jokes aside though, they did an AMAZING job with Sam. The animations in this game are (for the most part) pretty smooth; only a little choppy at times. And now for my favorite part... the cons!![Eek! ](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
Cons: What in the absolute hell is up with the fighting? Why is it so goddamn hard in the later episodes? I could go on for more than an hour about all of the problems with the fighting mechanics in this game, but for now I’ll keep it somewhat simple. I shouldn’t have to fight an enemy 10+ times to beat it, and ALL of the fights should be relatively easy. The fighting is just so inconsistent; sometimes Danny has the “double attack damage” ability button available, and sometimes it just turns gray and unclickable. Absolutely no skill is involved in the fighting, which is a good thing up until the point where winning isn’t possible; The four-armed bear fight in episode 6 is quite literally impossible and unavoidable. I’ve been sitting here using up my “magic point shit” and then for the rest of the time simply spamming the punch button. Blocking does nothing against this character. SOLUTION: Make fights easier and/or skippable, except for ones you’re meant to lose of course. I didn’t download Amity Park for challenging fights that take more than 10 times to beat... I downloaded it for the story and Maddie fricken Fenton. That brings up another point, wtf is up with the amount of content Maddie has? Absolutely nothing in episodes 1-5, and then a flood of scenes in episode 6? The only reason this is a problem for me, is because it takes sooooo long to get through those first 5 episodes if you read everything, which I must do because of my OCD. SOLUTION: For the love of God have a new scene with Maddie for every update from here on out. Now here comes the part that officially removes the 5th star for me... and is also the most disappointing con; Maddie’s H-scene art in episode 6. More specifically the hj/bj scene. I swear to God are there 2 different artists or something??? One for the animated scenes and 1 for the stand-still character silhouettes? Like hoooooly shit they’re polar opposites man. I look at the stand-still character for Maddie and am blown off of my feet, and then come this h-scene, I’m convinced I’m looking at an entirely different character in an entirely different game. SOLUTION: If there are 2 different artists, you definitely wanna cut it down to just the 1. But if there aren’t, then what the hell is going on? Why don’t the animated h-scenes have anywhere as good quality art as the stand-still ones???
All in all, this game isn’t half bad. I’m glad I finally got to playing it. This game is a hard 3.5 and a soft 4, but it could very easily be flipped into a 4-4.5 rating with some very simple fixes. I’m giving it the 4 simply because of the potential hope that these issues are addressed and corrected in the next update... which for Christ’s sake, better be out soon.![Wink ;) ;)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
