It's the anime-ish faces. They completely change the look of the characters from who they are. The bodies were changed a little from the beginning, you guys added a bit more meat to them, especially Sam, she was pretty much a stick figure in the series. I don't expect carbon copies but messing with the faces does far more to alter their looks than taking a little leeway with their bodies.

It's pretty simple.
Cartoon characters have to stay cartoonish sure you can give them bigger boobs, booty, longer legs or provocative clothes if your goal is to make them sexier but why change what makes the characters distinctive, the damn face namely, especially if the point of the game is to be a parody of Danny Phantom.

Was completely unnecessary to hire someone who can't duplicate the art of the show, not even close.

Imagine DarkCookie wouldn't draw Summertime Saga anymore but instead someone replaced his drawings with something that looks off.

Here is a portfolio of different artists who made Maddie sexier (but she still looks like the mother of the protagonist) that's how the redux should be.

Not sure if I follow your point cause all the characters still look pretty distinctly themself to me in all the art you qualified as 'bad'. Like I still easily recognise Maddie and Paulina so far.

While PePe was a bit... blunt, in some respects, I personally also preferred it when the characters' art (specifically their faces in particular) more closely resembled that of the original show. The eyes especially are a big factor in this. While characters like Maddie and Paulina (and probably most if not all of them) will probably remain easy to distinguish regardless of the art style, the change can be quite jarring for players who are accustomed and/or prefer it when the characters' design look like they're taken almost right out of the show (while still allowing for certain exceptions, such as Sam's body actually having curves and whatnot).

I mean, the design being closer to the original or not isn't the same thing as the character not being recognisable, those are two different points.

Sure the new art is farther away from the original show but I still recognise the characters without problems, they are still visibly themself, just in a different style so while I understand the whole 'We'd rather it be close to the original', I don't really understand saying you can't tell it's the character.

Nor do I ever recall implying that a change in art style would render the characters unrecognizable, and I don't know of anyone making such complaints either. In fact I clearly stated the opposite and they're all quite distinguishable regardless of the general design so long as the character's base physical traits remain, which they clearly do. I was merely commenting on how such a drastic change in art style can be jarring since the game's art has so closely resembled the original show's up until the new redux update, so it is perfectly understandable for people to say they don't like the change in character art and design. If some people actually prefer they new art style, that's fine too. But people shouldn't just dismiss the opinions of those who like the old style more, and they shouldn't put words in someone else's mouth either.

It may not have been you, but it has been stated many times in the thread. "They are unrecognizable!" "I don't recognize that person!" "Those are not the same characters!" "I don't know who those people are!" Etc...

Saying that he doesn't understand the problem is not the same as dismissing someone's opinion.

Some of us just don't see it as being that 'drastic'.

As for StS, it may not have been a new artist, but D.C. DID completely change the style of the characters, and not all of them were for the better. My favorite one being one such character who was so different, that she went from being my favorite character to one of my least favorites, and I didn't play the game for over a year because of it. Now, it is mostly that I just want to see the end of the story for myself.

So, it is not that I don't understand not liking certain changes in style, it is just I never really thought the originals, while really good, were super sexy. For the non sex scenes the sprites will stay the same, there won't be any changes there. It's just the sex scenes will be a little sexier.

I sympathize, I really do, and I am all in favor of people noting changes they think might improve the design, that's great, it is not as if I think that was perfection, but I do like the general direction myself. I just think that we should not get too worked up over one image, wait, give it a chance and see how it turns out.

Has the public version of the Redux been released yet? I'm pretty sure it has been a week since the patreon release
No. The Redux update was made available to Gzone's VIP patrons on the 5th of July, and they get to play the update 2 weeks before it's released to the public. So logically, it'll go public on the 19th this month, assuming it isn't leaked beforehand.

I'm not putting words into your mouth, you're the one who responded to me after I said to someone who did straight up say they were that I disagreed / didn't understand the point.

Unless you're Pepe's sock account, I quite literaly wasn't talking to you and explained to you my problem with his point when you missunderstood me and responded with something unrelated.

Fair enough, though I hope you can understand my thinking that you did think I had that opinion, as your post was a quote/response to my own post. Thus as far as I could tell, I *was* the person you were talking to (the most, at least).
And just for the record, I am not in fact Pepe's sock account, nor do I have any sort of association with them.

Forgot to mention one thing, that is of course also important to recognize someone and that is the "signature" clothes and hairstyle.
In the shared pictures the hair & the outfit which is common in the original series was always present that will probably be the reason why you can still recognize the characters despite the anime look.
If that is also omitted, it will be much harder to understand what the artist is pointing to.
So it is quite understandable that the more parameters of the original art the parody copies, the easier it is to immediately get what it is about especially when it comes to the appearance, because this catches your eye.

TL;DR:

First version of amity park captured the style from the original animated serie and that would actually make the game more immersive and appealable for whoever watched the serie.

Now this redux version took away that factor by reworking the characters to look nothing close to the original series and instead they look either too anime-ish or totally not something people was looking for to play with after the update announcement.

Don't get me wrong, this new artstyle looks ok and is not ugly at all! is just that they took away that factor of seeing the characters looking like in the TV series which kills off the mood when playing this

Edit: A good game example its this one called Ben X Slave Quest see how the devs working on this captured the essence of the art making it look a like to the TV show. this is the concept people will look for!

Or even Something Unlimited which totally resembles to the DC superheroes from Young Justice! so yeah if they want to move forward on this redux version its their choice, but in my honest opinion is not a game i wont be looking forward to have interest due the changes are not that good

Genuine question but, seeing the comments here made me think... Why not just give the players the option to choose old art/new art in the redux? (Kinda like what Legend Of Queen Opala Origins did) Please correct me if what I said is not possible lol.

This seems to be a good solution: my compliments! there is no way in heaven or hell everyone can be satisfied with a game project this big, but give people the option to choose and you get mighty close.

The problem with that solution is that there won't be any 'old-style' art from ep. 8 and beyond. Everything after redux will be with the new art.
