You can't do that, only do that with "update onlys". You need to extract it to it's own folder, you need to start new anyway as this is a remaster.

Okay, looking this over, it wasn't just a ".../scripts/screens.rpy" issue. That was just the first error. Fixing that caused more errors, and fixing those caused even more, and "

Based on what little testing I've done, it seems like ***currently*** the game should be played "as is" without either of the patches.

I'll let someone with more knowledge investigate and determine whether or not to report this to mods and ask them to remove the patches from the OP (or move them under the spoiler for the v0.99a Extra version?)

I feel ya on that sentiment, one letter or keystroke off can be problematic.

.rpy is the text version that is readable for humans.
.rpyc is the compiled version that is readable for computers.

The extra pack included the .rpy
Launching the game would create an .rpyc from the .rpy
The extra pack also included screens.rpy.org
I have no knowledge about what that is, but opening it in notepad it looks identical to the corresponding .rpy

But, as mentioned, that doesn't seem to be the only issue.
And as SonsOfLiberty says/suggests (I'm not 100% sure how to comprehend what they wrote) the extra pack was (probably?) for the old version, not for use with the remaster.

Yes, there is NO extra version anymore, there is ONE singular version of the game.

From the Patreon post and changelog:

We've done away with the extra versions of the game, now all content will be available in one game.

Do NOT use anything else, the game even has a hints system, so a mod probably won't even be necessary either.

Getting sick of all these remakes when the devs don't know how to continue. Obviously there are valid reasons for remakes, but it's starting to look a lot like Disney. And we all know how well they are doing.
Devs really need to learn to outline their basic story ideas, storyboard, etc.
