I figured it out. It was bringing up my inventory. (I thought that was what it was supposed to do). I.e. an inventory you can access from multiple places like an rpg does sometimes. It was obviously asking me to use my key on the locker and I was too stupid to realize that.

The problem that I see from this game is that it's hard to make a patch, at least from my limited knowledge, because all relation has been cleansed from this game. I was looking for variables in the files and there is literally nothing. Other games allow you to name your character set a relation, but in this game, there is no relation variable. Someone could add a short intro talking about each family member, but the rest of the game will not reciprocate those intros. It's like they don't have a past, it's sort of weird. I was looking into making a patch, but it's a lot of effort for little payoff. I'd have to add dialogue in many spots of dialogue just to make it real :/

One of the best ways to make an incest patch, which is unfortunately almost never used, is with config.label_overrides.

It basically lets you change a scene only for those who are using the patch. This way you can easily make whatever dialogue changes that are necessary for incest and they won't actually show in the game for anyone who isn't using the patch. Also, the fact you aren't overwriting any files makes the patch much more likely to work with new versions and, since the patch replaces how the scenes normally play out as long as it's released anonymously or by someone else than the devs there shouldn't be any problem with Patreon since I doubt they can blame a game's dev for a patch that overrides the normal scenes.

The only real downside, for a dev patching his own game, is that you have to spend time writing two different versions of each scene that needs the patch, which can be as simple as copy+pasting the normal scene and making a few slight changes or write completely different dialogue if that's what they want.

i was about to confirm if this game had an incest tag, thats kinda why i downloaded it in the first place but this new update i noticed this game went down the "no incest" path which is very disheartening, noticed only patreon and no subscribestar which is another bummer. if you do decide to make a patch, you have my support, tempted to not even play this game anymore, took all the fun out of it honestly.

I'm kinda busy at the moment, posting an odd comment or two every now and again (or more when I really go down the rabbit hole) but since it just updated, I'll consider it.

Haha, that's good optimism, but if someone hasn't picked up the torch in the time since Incest was removed, I'd say that torch is gonna stay pretty cool for a long time.

I just read up a bit. That's sad.
When I started playing adult games about a year ago, Another Chance had just come out and I played the little there was and then made a bookmark to check again after a year.
Now I see it once again in Latest Updates and learn that Incest was removed? Aww man, that sucks!

But this game started when the Patreon incest ban was already in place. I don't get it.
