It used to be killing someone would at least be enough to get the attention of the Courts and Congress, but the absurd corporation news of the week: Disney is trying to get a measly 50k lawsuit (man's wife died after a severe allergic reaction to something she ate at a carelss Disney park restaurant) thrown out of court because the guy once had a 30-day trial membership to Disney+ (!!!) and somewhere in the fine print of that free trial there was apparently something about not being able to sue Disney for anything. So if they get a stupid judge they could literally start knifing to death anyone who ever had a Disney+ membership. Pretty sure that's not one of the membership perks on the ads for their crappy streaming service...
I am pretty sure that any contratual obligation becomes void if there is gross negligence which seems to be the case in that situation. But that is way off topic.
I just want another update for this game.

Disney did back down on that argument once it hit the news cycle properly. I guess even they could tell how bad it was making them look.
They also probably realized that the judge may rule that tos aren't legally enforceable contracts. That would cause problems for every other corp.

Doubtful.

Methinks it was 110% the bad PR that made them change course and nothing else.

I wouldn't say burning given how long it takes between updates. With Luxee's history with the game and the fact that it's been six years already with 2 of those on hold we would be luck if the next update after this one comes out at all.

It never was. Luxee has always been updating it and posting progress on his own website, but this board's admins have a weird rule about the Abandoned tag where if the developer isn't updating their Patreon page then it's considered "Abandoned" after a few months.
There are special circumstances for the tag.

  1. On-hold: used for a developer who temporarily stops working on a game for whatever reason and makes a clear public statement about it, if they do not resume work in 6 months the prefix is changed to Abandoned.
  2. Abandoned: used in the following cases:
    • The developer states that the development has been permanently suspended.
    • After 3 months of inactivity from the developer's public creator/crowdfunding accounts (Patreon, SS, etc), we will resolve special circumstances or scenarios on a case-by-case basis (no creator accounts, creators developing for free, Patreon accounts under review/ban).
    • No game update has been released for an abnormally long period of time (>18 months).
    • Game threads that are marked On-hold for over 6 months with no game update.
    • Note: this prefix is only removed upon the release of a new update for purchase/download.
It's not a weird rule considering most of the games tagged abandoned are quite abandoned...

Except this game isn't abandoned and you can see that it isn't abandoned by checking Luxee's website. Yet, the Abandoned tag remains...
Bro it's just a procedure to keep somethings in order, of course there are going to be some outliers, but Luxee SS is a desert and his Patreon last post was in fev and was just him saying "I'm alive". I do check his site regularly and knew he was alive, but i understand the need of these rules to the tag.
A lot of devs would never pronunciate about the game status and kept their crowdfunding pages running, and a personal site isn't a 'safe place' to base the status, since there is no legal terms to make/press the dev keep his word.

By thumb it's best to go like this:
Abd tag? Find their social pages to check. Are they active? Cool. No? Move on.

To be fair, the updates I've seen are so slow it might as well be abandoned. The last one I saw said something along the lines of 10/16 things ready for the update after month of it being worked on, and that was more than a month ago. I don't even remember when the previous one was and there wasn't much difference in progress.
Anyway, it has been what, a year and a half since the last update?

What "order" is it keeping? People can still post in the thread and bump it. The Abandoned tag doesn't hide the thread or move it into quarantine. In theory it's useful for appropriately tagging games that have actually been abandoned, but in practice it's also used in the case of this game as a weird tool to spite the game creator because they aren't updating their Patreon page. Why does it matter that they aren't updating their Patreon when their website, which is also linked in the OP, is showing progress on the update?

At best it's a strange an arbitrary use of the Abandoned tag because it isn't an automated process to tag the thread, it was deliberately done, and whomever deliberately did so also chose to ignore the fact that the creator is posting progress updates on their website. At worst, it's a method by admins to try and "motivate" or shame creators into releasing updates quicker, which is just... strange considering this is a pirate software forum.

Anyways, I've said my peace. Moving on.
