Once, when I played this game, it could be completely ignored. But I don't know, if this is still possible with the actual version.
If you choose to help Nea early on in the game and befriend her, that puts you down a path where there's some tension that culminates in walking in on Nea masturbating to the MC's underwear. That forced another "do you want to be just friends" question, that in the past had led to Nea presumingly unaliving herself if you rejected her for romance, although I believe that the dev undid that in a later update. I don't know if there's actually any "friend" content with Nea after that, or if there is planned to be any. I think there is a demand for it, as many people are sympathetic to her plight and want to help her, but aren't interested in love with her.
