You can capture certain buildings, coffee shops and churches I believe, also, some survivors will give + happiness if you recruit them.

Keeping good food supply is also important, low food and people get pissed off fast.

well as much as I try, most survivors turn out less than useful and I keep losing them to random captures with as much as 95% success rate, this gallery is never gonna be finished, does anyone have a full one?

You've got to find the right recruits and then get affinity with them. If you take over the store you can buy them gifts and stuff and sometimes there's a side-quest.

How do you rescue people in general? Someone was captured but it didnt say anything about being able to rescue them
