Also noticed that. It makes me think one of the two things:
  • Either (1) the idea of scaling character figures (to make females generally less tall than males, as it is irl, or just to make characters mode diverse in height and athleticism) simply does not cross the minds of most creators
  • Or (2) for some reasons it just does not work that simple with DAZ characters or in general with human 3D characters. Meaning, for example, if you just scale a model as a whole - you get weirder body proportions, and to properly depict a human of a height lesser/bigger than average one might need to scale different body parts disproportionately, which can be tricky.
There are numerous games I've come across where the dev is clearly capable of making any of the characters taller or shorter, and made a conscious choice to make the MC short. Often an entire head shorter than a lot of the women.

It almost makes me feel like around here, desiring a game with a taller MC and shorter women is almost a fetish, despite that being the reality of life most of the time.

I think you've hit something right on the head, in a strange way what's "normal" and "natural" has become fetishized due to how uncommon it is. The overwhelming standard in VN media has become that of the "supermodel" i.e extremely tall, very thin models with maximized symmetry to both their facial features and body proportions. There's an impossible unreal unnatural character to their figures. Furthermore, when an already barbie-doll ideal is placed through yet another layer of artifice of gravity defying 3D digitization, it only serves to exponentially multiply the unnaturalness of the models in question to an absurd level of uncanniness bordering on parody.

For some that find this artifice appealing, its only multiplies their pleasure, but for people like us it has the polar opposite effect. Suffice to say, yes we really need more height variety and more variety in general. All these identical sexbots clocking at 6 foot 5, hairless, with perfect skin, 0% body fat, with no physical impurities whatsoever needs to go. Its clinical, its cold and its just plain boring.

I don’t know if you’ve played JASON, but I pay very close attention to the sizes and body shapes of my characters:

Maybe that's sort of a cheap and shallow way to create a character that's balanced in between the "winner" and the "loser". Handsome but short. Big cock and small brains. Popular with girls despite shallow personality.
I don't know. To me that would seem to just be doubling down on making him as unlikable as possible, at least in my eyes.

And i think that the easy, or even lazy thing to do would be to just create a game where all of the men and women are just the same height. And if that were the case, it honestly wouldn't be noticed all that much, I think. Not as realistic, but not standing out as being out of place either.

But so many of the games clearly go out of their way to make the guys small that I have to think that at least for some of them, they're pouring their own insecurities into the game as a way to "prove" that small guys can date or hook up with anyone. And if that were a minority of games with a particular fetish in that regard, then so what. But its so, so common, and that's what gets me.

And the flip side of that is that so few games feature women who are short and curvy in relation to the MC. Short and tiny sometimes, often in a character who feels way too young, unfortunately. But when in reality there are tons of women who are considerably shorter than an average sized man, and with that often comes a certain curvier body type, available ones in these games are so rare that they're almost unicorns. And even weirder, when a game does feature these types, its often one where its entirely first person perspective, so you rarely if ever see her and the MC side by side.

It can be that and it often seems so, OR it could be catering to the insecurities of (allegedly) a significant chunk of the target player base. Because as a game dev you want your player engaged through associating themselves with the protag. Whether the core assumptions about the target audience are correct or incorrect is a different topic :)
