It sounds like their OS won't let him delete certain folders.

Sounds pretty odd there are folders labeled '.' though, which OS are you using exactly Carl?
a single period is a shortcut to 'this current folder'. same way that double periods means 'parent folder of this folder'. so you cant delete '.' while you are currently in that folder. you dont delete the period shortcuts ever. you target the folder by its actual path

The Mac OS creates files like that, I have extra files any time I move things between the mac and the windows based systems (Pretty much any file the mac actually "did anything to/touched" on say an external device will have a "hidden" "." file with almost the same name. Pretty sure its like a custom temp file setup in case you make changes and want to revert them, etc.)

windows 10.
Trying to delete the 0.6 folder doesnt work, the two things stay and say any attempt to delete fails
Sounds like the system is mucking things up with temporary files, and thinking they are in memory (hence the not able to delete). As seronis suggested, formatting the USB drive will ultimately solve the problem, in a manner. Once there is noting on it, then you can unzip the new files and work with a fresh version. In rare cases, since the system seems to think you are using files on the usb drive, it may tell you it cannot format becauise it is in use. Formatting on a different system should do the trick.

I was just curious about this old nostalgic game and figured it might have been put up in this site. And wow, fans liked it so much that there are some that decided to finish it themselves.

It would be nice if there are more similar games. Sadly when it comes to BSC like setting, they're non-existent.

Yeah...we're all kinds of messed up like that. :p

Well..i mean...when you think about it...it was never a game company or anything like that...it was a project by someone who wanted to make it...so its just a new batch of those kinds...but with a baseline to work from instead of having to start from scratch. But...bear in mind...I hear there is a curse upon it...and we've had some people start and disappear even just since I have been in the thread...

Alright...so...I have been poking around a lot...and I made some things that work and I've broken other things...and so I decided to start from scratch as a learning exercise along side of the stuff I can do/am doing...and I have run into an interesting dynamic. Using the Ren'py SDK, it seems that I have to recompile a project I am working on every time I want a working executable...which is fine...But...I know its not the only way to do it...based on my experience here...since all I have been doing is editing the RPY files and reloading the base executable of the game...and as long as i don't gimp the code...it just works...Can anyone here provide guidance for "starting from scratch" to get a base setup for a project to work like this one does? I have a little side thing I want to make for a friend, and since I am already exposed to more code/langage/syntax here than any other option, I figured it would just be the way to make it...and hey the learning might also help here...:p

No, it works perfectly fine?

It's an absolute classic. The original by Aval0nx was made in flash (and is still playable via Ruffle on his inkbunny page), but it was ported to Ren'py years ago, after which there were several devs who added some content on top of what was there.

Why did you think it wasn't working?

Hey Pleevy, you shouldn't need to recompile, you should be able to press shift + r to reload your code while you're in the game you started via "launch project".
That's half the fix...I still want the end result to function like this one does for ease of additions in the future.
yeah not sure if im going to download this. is there a bunch of issues with the game or somthing?
There is one issue. It's incomplete. That's being worked on. :p And maybe another...someone said something about a curse earlier...if you believe in such things.

Until I break the code..then it doesn't. But I keep finding my mistakes and learning and trying not to make them again. :p

So....250 lines of code later...added to a file that should have been considered finished already....and I am almost back to new content. What a curse my tangential focus is...o_O

I don't think I fully understand what you mean.

How my workflow on Cubsitting Simulator looks:
- I start the ren'py sdk launcher
- I click open project, that opens vscode
- I click 'launch game' in the sdk launcher
- generally, if I make a change in vscode and save, it loads the changes automatically.
- if the changes aren't automatically applied, I press shift + r in the game to reload.
- when I'm satisfied I tested everything, I build my win / linux / mac / android distributions.
(Then there are generally two more steps: - I get told I forgot to test X obvious thing and it doesn't work, - I hurriedly fix the bugs I should've caught during developing, but you can skip those last steps with proper testing :p)

What's not working with your new project / what do you mean with "function like this one does"?
