You have a good way to set up lightning and the whole scene and your models are great.

First of all subd higher than 3 is not only not necessary, but it's also overkill, you won't really see any difference between 3 and 4 but the loss of performance is very much noticable.

If you do some really close closeups you can see a difference.
But the much much more higher render times is not worth it, I agree.

Thin walled is not the go to for natural eyes or skin, it's just deactivating SSS which is actually necessary for realism.

I was referring to the "natural eyes" product and my experience is: with thin walled on you get much better results, but render times and vram usage is much higher.

In my experience the most realistic scenes use simple lighting, everything else is either for cinematic effects or eye-candy, just because something is shiny doesn't mean it's realistc.
It's correct though that lighting is the key for not only realistic renders, but also perfomance.

Imagine an indoor, dark setting like in a nightclub, for the environment you will have many mesh/point/linear lights.
Put 10 glasses with Iray glass shaders in and it's a nightmare to render. But to get the real environment feeling, you can't get rid of all of the lights.

Outdoor or indoor with normal lights is something completely different.
You can use iray section planes and use a hdri with fill/backlights.

There's a lot of misleading information out there regarding daz and rendering, so I'd always take all the information you get with a grain of salt and always question if stuff is really necessary.

I really do, there are some very good tutorials, I just found the tutorials from it roy, which gave me some nice ideas.

But would you deny, that a Gen8 with HD skin, good looking eyes, hair and clothes use 2-3GB?

My non-game render, even the special render on patreon/subscribestar look a lot more realistic if I want to go that way.

I use gen 3 and 8.
This might surprise you, but even gen 3 usually has 4k textures, the biggest difference is the shader. It's almost always the shader that makes a figure look great or shitty. Gen 3 base female has one of the best textures to-date, it just uses a shitty 3dl shader.
Ellie, Jada and Rachel, all use the gen3 base textures, I've only changed the shader (and eyes).
Eyes aren't usually that impacting on performance, but yes, they can be a pain to get right.
Hair and clothing though... ugh... let's not start with them... it's a nightmare.

And BM Is good as it is.
It has good renders, with good details, and more important a good story and lovely models.

Have to take your word for it, as I never (perhaps a mistake) used Gen3.
But I've made the decision to go with Gen8 and there are some (imho) really great models out there.

But that means I have to deal with the consequences.
I would like to change to 8.1 for the face rig and the pbr skin.
But not in my current project.

And using the pbr skin ... it's working with 8 too, but I'm too busy to try it.

It's simply to get bit more support and a bigger audience, I've lost my job right at the beginning of rona, and this is kinda officially my job by now, so I have to get some money in somehow. Patreon just doesn't cut it, some months it was barely enough to pay all bills and it's risky as well.

To the game: I've changed a few things that are steam specific (no patreon/ss links and one scene cut short), but I've also included a little "switch" in the code for when I ever need it. The package is essentially the same, it's just the switch that changes a few lines.

Regarding steam itself, I've never had a problem with them (aside from them blocking lewd stuff ). I very much prefer it over almost every other store (and especially epic's store and launcher which is much, MUCH worse than steam!).
That being said, it's a real pain in the arse to release something there, at least when you've never done it before...

Steam is a good way to advertise the game and get some more incoming. Besides they have been quite open to XXX games in the last years. Quite a few developers either release games there already or plan to.

That being said, it's a real pain in the arse to release something there, at least when you've never done it before...

Rec did you try asking another devs that already released games there? Maybe they can help you with some of the things the plataform asks.

Can't you use a VPN and go to Steam as if from North America to see anything you want?

This month probably not, next month.... probably not as well^^
We'll see how things go, the overall quality of my render has improved a lot over the past months/year and I was able to keep the rendering speed kind of consistent by getting better hardware, but I'm missing one of my grafics cards now (luckily the slower one), so it's hard to predict. I've had really long rendering times with one of the scenes I'm working on, but it's also the biggest scene (environment) I've ever used and that part is finished now, so I hope the rest will go a lot faster.

Now I am curious what country has the largest list of adult games.... I am seriously going to go down that rabbit hole sometime I know myself.

Yes VPNs reduce your internet speed but with that connection you are unlikely to noticed the difference.
