Honestly, the gameplay isn't bad but it's definitely a misuse of the RPG Maker engine. There's another game with similar gameplay and it's called "Spooky's House of Jumpscares" but obviously, that one isn't made using RPG Maker and it shows. No weird map loads, or teleporting after saves, or changing maps when in battle, etc.

I enjoyed it though, so I definitely recommend.

I think is melon's main quirk is jumping from one gameplay style to another.

Drink Bar Maid was a wierd puzzle thing. the sequel was a wierd RPG-esque game.

Maou to Shugo Kishi was more a walking simulator with light-puzzle solving to get through (I do love the art in this one ngl)

Afterwards he made 2 JRPGs, tried to code a 3d platformer on Unity, and this.

I'd say he has a problem with sticking to one gameplay genre.

Keep in mind that some creators want to find something they're comfortable with, some want to challenge themselves, some want to find a niche and others want to keep themselves from getting bored by sticking to the same thing ad nauseam.

Yea but speaking as someone who really does love his art and has been following him for many many years now, I do enjoy the newer games he makes the biggest issue is simply the fact that they are all so freaking short lol. Him making all these different genres is fine on paper but then I'd wait around almost a year for a new game of his and the game will have around 20 minutes of gameplay.
