It's a teaser related to a possible follow-up that will resolve MC's relationship with his mom.
They were considering what to do with Nicole and later decided that leaving her as a side without consequences (well, besides the obvious clash with one other LI) was fine. She already acts as a catalyst; pregnancy didn't change anything.
