What zip? On that Adobe downloads page there's the .DMG file for your Mac. You want the standard one, so download the one that is not named "content debugger".

How does the save system work? whenever a new version comes out should i download it and play it again? or is there any way to use the save in the updated game?

Windows than open run (search in search bar if needed) than search %appdata% once inside go to macromedia and than #sharedobjects than local host than find behind the dune folder and replace or add file to said folder

It's from 2.30, just make a new save than replace it with my save and it should theoretically work
