VN - Ren'Py - Being a DIK [v0.10.1] [DrPinkCake]

My opinion only for the first episode (couldn't force myself to play more than that):
Can't believe this game has so many 5-star reviews, if it was on a different site I'd say it was voted up by bots or something. Heavy spoilers for Ep. 1 ahead.
Before I start complaining about the specifics, a quick general review : the 3D renders are very good, the music is good, the gameplay is mostly a VN with some annoying minigames and point-and-click style segments.
You get warned at the very beginning that this game might make you feel angry. I've naively assumed that meant unfair situations or the antagonists being real dicks (diks). Nope. What infuriated me was the MC. At every step he behaves like an insane person and because the EP. 1 is pure railroading (I went back and replayed with the opposite choices, got the exact same result) all the "choices" are just meaningless options that don't change anything.
The MC knows martial arts, can play a guitar, is good looking (some people even compare him to a jock) and he says he's used to being bullied!? After getting led-on by a girl he had a crush on she reveals that she has a boyfriend and that what she did hanging out with MC was wrong; MC continues to try and get together with her like nothing happened. After arguing with some jocks the MC is given a wedgie by one of them and just accepts it, like any person with some martial training would. MC's treasured guitar gets stolen from his room and all he does is tell the receptionist that he had a "falling out" with his roommate, without reporting the theft to the campus security or the police. Even if the MC beats up the roommate for letting someone steal the guitar, the MC is the one to leave and look for a new place to stay instead of kicking out the shitty roommate. When caught stealing panties from the girl dorm, the trained fighter MC gets overpowered and thrown out naked by two girls. Later, after being tasered, kidnapped and assaulted for the initiation for the frat-house that tricked and humiliated the MC, he just accepts it and joins the fraternity!?
So far the only LIs in the game are the girls MC interacted the least so they didn't fuck him over yet. One LI led him on even though she "has a boyfriend", another LI makes the MC do her some favors after learning that she's been given some of his stolen things, and the third LI rapes, tasers and helps kidnap the MC in his sleep (if you don't think that's rape, consider the situation where a guy gets on top of a sleeping girl, grinds on her, and tasers her when she starts to do anything; just because the sexes are swapped, doesn't make it less of a rape).
After the first episode the most appealing LI options are the rich girl who pities the MC and the librarian who seems to hate him. I guess there would be other girls later on, but if this is any indication of how they're written, I'll pass.
I suppose this game has some appeal for players with a humiliation fetish, just didn't expect such a game have a 4+ star rating. That, or people just skip all dialog to look at the renders.

Great game. One of the few games out here that isn't about a hung hero with some bogus mind control powers or a demon friend. The story is pretty good, mainly thanks to the characters. It makes you want to play it and it's actually fun AND sexy at the same time. Minigames are skippable from the get-go go so that is a big plus, no mandatory grinding minigames for money, etc.
One of the top games on this site, and my personal favorite when it comes to 3DCG.

I'll start my review with a general feeling from playing this game: it's pretty fucking good. And i say that after playing at least a half hundred AVNs, so my standards for a good AVN are high. BaDIK was actually the very first AVN i've played and was the reason i got hooked up to AVNs.

Story:
A bit slow at the beginning but picks up the pace rather quick and stays fun and entertaining, unlike some titles that start out great but losing in quality after a couple of updates. It's a basic college drama, but wrapped up in an interesting form. The choices are actually matter here, and i especially like that some of them will bite you in the ass way, way later. For example, getting in an affair with a certain teacher and then gettings close to a certain girl which turns out to be the teacher's relative. You can guess pretty well how this can backfire. I feel like there's a greater mystery involving drugs and drug dealers, the glimpses of which you can witness throughout the game, specifically interacting with Quinn. The most obvious one is at the end of the current version, which i won't spoil here.

I liked how the game handles your general attitude without overdoing it. DIK or Chick, it's not game-changing but some interactions are clearly made to match your DIK or Chick affinity, like flipping off Jocks after the fight with a big dude, and just walking away after the same fight if you're Chick. Some characters can comment on your affinity, like when Bella is talking to Sage. Sage says that MC is a great guy and Bella says: - "Are we talking about the same person?" (DIK) or "I see" (Chick). You're getting pretty mean dialogue lines if you're a DIK, while Chick is nicer to people (i guess, i'm a DIK all the way and only played DIK routes cause i'm kind of an ass myself xd). Humor in this game is great, i'm not an easy person to get laughing but some jokes were right up my alley.

Graphics, animations, performance, sound:
Are great, all of them. I don't know if the game was reworked at some point (pretty sure it was not), but even the first builds were awesome. Hell, even some 2022+ released games suck ass in comparison to the beginning of the s1. The only thing that might be annoying is occasional lag spikes during auto saves, but it's tolerable. Sex scenes are top tier, one of the best in the AVN industry, and gets better and better with each update.
I don't play AVNs with sound but first time i've played BaDIK i've been playing with it, and it's great. Added some tracks in my playlist.

Gameplay:
Is good. Mini-games are fun, free-roam can be a bit annoying at times but it gets better with the fast-travel implementation, which is not available until like s1ep5 or so. Some management here and there, which i find rather annoying and tedious most of the times, mostly because it's done bad. Not the case here, i even liked the party management in s2. Some mini-games have funny consequences, like aiming the ball at Tybalt (fucking bitch) and knocking his teeth out. I genuinely laughed doing that. Excuse me if that part wasn't a part of a mini-game, it's been some time since i played s1 so i don't remember everything.

Characters:
Are interesting, almost all of them.
One of the best MCs i've seen so far. Not creepy fuck but actually thinking human being. He's not perfect in any way, has a footlong dick (of course) and a dumbass at times, but he's being reasonable, admits his mistakes (most of them anyway) and you can shape his behavior quite a bit.
Sage is my personal favorite, she's fucking great. Easygoing and fun, supportive when necessary, sexy, smart and... well fuck, she's a perfect girlfriend, especially for a DIK affinity. She likes bad boys. And a redhead, love me some redheads.
Bella is my second fav, the Ice Queen. Kinda has a stick up her ass but getting close to her is an interesting experience. That kind of a woman is a partner for life. She's extremely smart, attentive and actually kind to people she cares about.
Side girls are also pretty damn great. Lily, Nicole, Rio (my favorite side girl), Cammy, Quinn (second fav), Sandy. They all fun in their own ways and get enough screen time so the solo path is actually enjoyable. Unfortunately some side girls are getting tossed away, Cathy for example. I liked her really. More than i liked Jade tbh.
The not-so-fun girls are Josy-Maya and Jill. They're just too vanilla for my taste, nothing really special about them, which isn't bad, just not for me.
I kinda wish that there was an option to avoid Josy and Maya but they're quite important for the story even if not on their path, so i'm not complaining. What i didn't like about Maya is her using MC, dry humping him and knocking him out with a fucking taser. C'mon dude, that shit ain't cool, imagine if roles were reversed, a guy knocking out a girl with a taser after dry humping her. Really creepy shit. I know she was kinda forced to do that but damn girl, use your fucking brain for once. MC is not a saint either, dating and possibly fucking a girl (Josy) knowing she kinda has someone already but this horse crap Maya pulled off is too much.
As for Jill... well, i've got nothing to say really, she's just too vanilla. And going behind MC's back telling that he was bullied when MC didn't ask her for it is not cool. She clearly doesn't know a phrase "The road to hell is paved with good intentions".
All the DIKs are cool dudes, i don't even have anyone i dislike, not even Tommy. He's a dick ofc, but he's funny. Derek is like a goofy brother, i like him, good friend altho with a loosy mouth when drunk.

Conclusion:
Great, cool, fun, awesome and excellent. Give it a go if you haven't already (heretic). Honestly 5/5 in my book, and while nothing is perfect, this one is as close to being perfect as possible. The only downside is a long ass wait for another update, but i rather wait a year for a juicy refined update than getting half-assed 200-500 render long pieces every few months.

Yes, the dev may be took too long to release each of episodes but:
"A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad".

For me adult games where always just a way for me to jerk off to some pretty lady and maybe catch a bit of the story but man this game made me really invested in the story and even after I got into a relationship I still wanted to play this game even if its just for the story. Even if I would try really hard I could not find a single bad thing about this game.

there is not a single VN that is in the same level as this game, truly a masterpiece. Amazing visuals, each episode getting better, incredibly and engaging story, charismatic characters. I've been playing it since episode 3(?) i think and for sure the best vn I ever played

Its hard to find anything bad about this game. Its the perfect game.

The only downside of this game is the long wait for updates. But by the amount and quality of the content comming out its easy forgiven.

This game is massive. There is so much you can do, from the gameplay to the choices you get to make. There are so many choices you can make with many of them affecting how people view you and your overall personality. Additionally, there's free roam events where you get to explore the building. On top of that, there's texting, social media, dating app, mini games, etc. It will definitely take some time to complete. That doesn't even scratch the surface of what the developer has added. There's entire game systems in this game as well.

The story is very long, so you'll get to enjoy the game longer. A lot of the choices you make affects things in the future, whether it is small or big. The paths with each of the girls is very extensive and there's even a solo path. Choices you make in Episode 1 can affect Episode 6, for example. Also, the story is very engaging to me. I'm always left with a "dang it, now I have to wait a couple months to see what happens next - I need to know what happens next".

The renders are high quality and there's a lot of animated renders in there as well that doesn't just stop at looking a girl up and down.

As for the adult content: The sex scenes have many different choices that you can make, with angles and positions. Because of the college theme of this game, you can't go too far without a potential option to sex someone up. Additionally, there is a lot of random nudity in this game. You'll be carrying a girl just to help her out and her breast will be randomly hanging out.

The affinity system is pretty nice and actually extends past choices. Even some of the dialogue is different. I went back and changed my affinity so I can see the outcome of a certain choice and was treated to different dialog in a completely unrelated scene. This attention to detail is also what helps make this game replayable.

Overall, this is one of my favorite visual novel games. The replayability is very high, there's so much to do, so many choices to make, and a fun, engaging story. Honestly, with how much you can do and how different things can turn out, it could easily be argued that calling it a visual novel is very reductive.

I would never have thought that a game from this genre would make me think about my life, about my actions, about the reasons for where I ended up now (everything is very bad).

I play computer games for about 20 years, if not more. No game even came close to giving such a number of emotions, from grief to laughter, from crying to tears of happiness. As the game progressed, I began to notice that even static pictures are not so static (as if the brain was completing the drawing what I see, well, or I'm already going crazy). During this game, I never jerked off even though I came to this genre primarily for this. After the last scene in episode 8 (with Jill, around episode 2 I started acting the way I would like to behave in real life) I decided it was time to stop watching porn. This addiction can be compared to alcohol, smoking and drugs and I don’t need it anymore.

For me personally, this is not just a game, but art. I can't believe that one person can do this (in a good way).

Story: 10/10
Sound: 10/10 (It turns out that songs by not particularly unknown artists can be at the level of a trend, some even surpass them.
Playability: 8/10 (Free roams and finding renders becomes boring at some point, especially when one location needs to be rechecked more than once during one big event)
Amount of content: 10/10 (I want more, but I know that it will affect the quality)
Writing: 10/10 (I am not strong in English, but I almost always manage to understand the meaning of what is written since there is not much slang. It's very easy to read and feels completely immersive.
Animations: Starting from 7 ending with 10 (Gradually playing the game, the progression in animations and their quality is visible to the naked eye)

I hope my review will not be deleted due to a lot of feelings. I read the review rules after writing them, and then started evaluating aspects of the game according to the rules I just don't want to use Backspace button anymore after I opened my soul.

There is no other game like this. This is my first vn that I have played and no game can beat this now. Dialogue are excellent, music is great and animations get better with each uptade. Best written porn game, that's all folks.

This game is such a perfection, the storytelling, characters, design, visual style, everything in this game is perfect as it is, Pink Cake this man makes me happy everytime he releases the episode, I swear you will find character that you will like or, the character you want route with. So yeah i definitely recommend this VN to try at least if you're new to this genre.

The pinnacle of these games. Incredible models, incredible storytelling, fun but skippable games/mini-games, and a decent soundtrack to boot. The only negative is that it will ruin your ability to enjoy other games as much.

I had my eye on this game for a while, and although at first I was about to drop it, the story hooked me.

THE GOOD
Although the plot is similar to many "the typical protagonist goes to college and fucks everything" games. This story hooks you with its characters, there are very good stories and the characters have quite unique personalities that differentiate them from each other. Even the male characters themselves are different from each other. The atmosphere, the plot, everything is very well written and constructed. Applause to the creator for doing a job that shows that he took the trouble to create something that made sense. On the other hand, I really like the rendering of the real characters, they are very well done, if I had to say a top I would say Isabella, Jill, Sage.

THE BAD... or not?
There are certain things that I don't like or that could be improved and that is that there are some characters that last a while without seeing each other or that are abandoned for a long time. The story is slow at first but then becomes fun and entertaining. I don't want to say much more because I really don't find that many bad things here but I must say that the relationship I liked the least is the one between the protagonist and Maya and the other, in fact Maya is the one I like the least.

Today, I played until version 0.9.1 . I recommend the game to enjoy a good story and especially some good scenes. There are stories that you may not like and there will be others that you do, but just for the fact that it is well written and well modeled, it is worth playing.

Excellent game. Its writing is amazing for the genre, many interesting characters, dialogue that's actually mostly worth reading. The music is great and really gives an extra dimension to many scenes.

BaDIK has some of the best branching I've ever experienced and multiple playthroughs are definitely necessary, but the quality of the game is such that you'll most likely want to do that anyway.

The sex is hot, but fairly vanilla, it's not a kinky game. I think more of this game as an RPG with very advanced romancing options. The sex feels like it isn't really the main focus of the game, it just accentuates the story very well.

Lots of content already, but new content is moving at a glacial pace. Be prepared to leave the game behind for at least a year or so before coming back, if you want new stuff to experience.

Amazing graphics and amazing animations and great storyline!!! Great character personalities, the characters themselves look awesome! Always new and different content here and the replay ability in this game is amazing so many different character paths to follow and so many scenes to watch. I definitely recommend trying this game. Look, there's a reason why this has remained one of the most popular games available on this site. I remember seeing a similar review somewhere so let me paraphrase in my own words:

This is porn you can tell people that you watch/read for the plot and mean it. Sure, the girls are hot and the sex can be really fucking sexy, but the twists in the plot man. Fuck me, the sex scenes are a bonus at this point.

When i mean pretty good story consider the scene around though. If it didn't have unnecessary renpy game mechanics it would've been worth staying on the pc to replay but it doesnt deserve the rating it has dont get fooled

I've played a lot of games on this site. Most of them are one-dimensional games that people rate highly if they play into their specific kinks. Most are forgettable . A few are good for a single playthrough. This one is different.

What sets it apart is that it's designed for more than a single playthrough. Although there are multiple LIs the game is not designed to allow access to all of them on a single play. Pursuing certain ones will lock you out of others. In short there are actual consequences to your actions in the story.

It's more than the choices in most of these games where it's a + or - choice to have a relationship with this or that LI. Your choices shape the dialog and personality of the MC as well as the events of the story. At time of this writing there are 9 large chapters and an interlude and choices you can make early on are still yielding new and potentially dire consequences for the MC.

This game, although unfinished and likely not to finish anytime soon, has more content than a lot of finished pieces on this site. A single update is generally larger than some complete games. If you enjoy games with stories and consequences where the MC isn't just some Gary Stu or Mary Sue try this game. There's also plenty of lewds and the overall quality of the art is well above most other efforts you'll find here, especially in the later chapters.

Note: There are a ton of mini-games in this project as well. Most of them are fun. (mouse mazes are not nor never will be fun.) They are entirely optional and you can choose to turn them off.

TL;DR A good game with a good story and good art, a cut above most offerings on the site.
