She was still depressed about her grandmother, and was living in a shitty situation at home. The worst thing you can say about Zoey was that she was completely unaware of her own self, completely lacking in introspection, but that is not rare for teens.

If you've tried 20 times to find a $3 job without success, you can just settle for a $2 job. I would recommend that you make a separate save where you are now and just keep playing. If you come up short, you can come back to this save.
