As people have said, there are many possibilities depending on the path you want to go through or the affinity you want to be. Personally, I think making the alphas leave more entertaining and that's what I do regardless of the path, but, when I'm doing a neutral path (I don't think I have a chick path...) I do some calculations so I can get there, make the alphas leave, and still be neutral. If it's your first run, my opinion, honestly, is to follow your guts and do whatever you'd like to do in real life. I think this is the most entertaining and rewarding way to play the first run.
