This week I focused on producing static renders and working on a free-roam event.

The animation playtime of this episode alone is now over 18 minutes, which is a +110% increase compared to episode 6. I think I've produced all animations needed, but a few scenes remain to be written.

The static render count of 3505 has also officially surpassed episode 6.

To show you the work I have left to do, I can try to make a bullet point list of it:

Missing content:

• Static renders for a handful of scenes (Estimation: 200-1000 renders)
• The final free-roam event is ~50% done
• 2 new/updated features need coding/art
• 3 scenes haven't been written yet
• Any animation(s) for the unwritten scenes
• Content for 2 mini-games
• Add sound and music for ~30% of the update
• Phone content (Mainly chats/Rooster/phone calls)

Other development activities:

• Meticulously play and polish the update
• Double-check variables, choices, branches
• Compatibility test changes with older saves
• Rewrite/trim/touch up scenes after playing
• Initial spellcheck before proofreading

After this, beta testing and proofreading will start, which will get the time it needs to make sure that the new features work.

This week we learned that DPC completed 614 statics renders in the last two weeks. No word on animations, but it sounds like they probably remain at 236. If we dust off our charts and add this information, we get the following:

Despite the paucity of numbers, we still got some significant information. First, DPC hit a new record average static render rate of 307 statics per week, which definitely implies he has more time to throw at the statics as other tasks are completed. But the big news is that DPC quietly dropped the expected total render count from 3891-5391 to 3705-4505 - nearly 500 statics fewer at the average.

Based on the new total, DPC could conceivably be ready for playtesting by next week at the earliest (low total and he keeps up the current pace), or by April 9 at the worst case (high total and drops back to a more typical render pace). It's difficult to determine exactly how much time the remaining tasks he listed might divert from his render rate. I suspect he'll drop the static render pace slightly as he finishes up the coding and the final render count will be about 4100.

My best guess is he'll be ready for playtest in about two weeks, with Episode 7 to launch on April 9. It could be April 16 if the coding takes longer than I think, and maybe April 2 is possible if everything goes smoothly). There's still a lot of variables, but I think we're getting close to reliable estimates now.

Kudos to Quinn for not only securing a dark background for her wallpaper, but also managing to project a bit of personality instead of standing there like a mannequin. I'd probably still put Sage or Envy ahead of her, but Quinn's giving them a run for the money. Let's hope the last two wallpapers can be more like this.

In-game, you've effectively painted Bella/Envy/Jade/Cathy with that same brush because of their age differences with the MC. And poor Derek with the old teacher. Oof.

WOW.. This is incredible work.
However it means file size is going to go upwards as well. 10 GB is already too big to download for me and I believe many others like me. Also if I'm forced to download the compressed version for the same reason like many others it will be a real pity.

Ya the file size is why I am a huge fan of torrents over file hosters - filehosters have limitations and have a tendency to drop connections at times especially when they get overloaded, forcing some folks to have to start the download over. I'd love to see a torrent always uploaded even for the patches / updates as they would allow us to help seed for each other. With P2P torrents the download and sharing can be very efficient if people do try to seed at least 1:1 for each other.

For me, file size is never a concern, ultimately I just want the highest possible quality even if it means the game is 100GB or more, but torrents will fix any issues with inconsistent hosting services.

There's already a lot to do in the game and just piling up different mini-games for the sake of it isn't really constructive. Not to mention some are downright buggy and annoying, like the trace-a-path game, but they still take a while to develop. Even if you remove all the mini-games it's still going to be very far from a space-bar simulator because there are a whole lot of choices to make. Fewer but more thought-out mini-games would feel better and leave more time for actually progressing the story. Although at this point it seems like they're intentionally added for the sake of padding out the episodes and prolonging the longevity of this project beyond the scope of the original story.

Yep, I'd be a big fan of dialing down some features in the game like the free roaming and some of the mini games to just get good, solid, story progression. That's not to say I hate the mini games or the free roaming, only that we don't need 'more' of it than we're already getting.

A focus on the story renders + animations, and story progression side events like Rooster & Texting are far more valuable to me than 'paint the fence' mini games.

I wouldn't say I'm on 'team sally', but I wouldn't mind seeing the MC take her for a roll in the sheets if she comes to another DIK party or something while he's still single. She's cute and looks really good in her little sorceress outfit.
