VN - Ren'Py - Being a DIK [v0.10.1] [DrPinkCake]

I have to say I am very impressed with this game it has the best written lines I have seen in a game so far, it is funny and sad in some parts of the game, The renders in this game is nothing short on being awesome and the animation and music are put into the game with such expertise as to not overload the game making it an enjoyable playtime, the story is deep and meaningful and you get to get some kind of feeling towards the characters.

All I can do is applaud you DrPinkCake. You've out done yourself! This game is a master piece and i'm not exaggerating because everything about it is screaming 'A PROFESSIONAL AT WORK '. I won't go into much details because i don't see the need to do that anymore since for me BAD is perfection and I don't have one negative thing to point out or even mention.

I'v played my fair share of VN and nothing is even remotely close to it in terms of story telling, models, music, renders atmosphere/environment setting(parties settings are fucking awesome) and development. I can't even compare it to your last project AL (which i was a huge fan of and was convinced that it couldn't get any better).

I mean seeing how smooth it runs on the Unity Engine is ridiculously mind blowing!!! I actually tried to find a noticeable flaw while playing it and I honestly couldn't!

I'm gonna take a bit to also mention how good the music and soundtracks are and the fact that they set the right mood in every damn scene/ dialogue and moment (even in mini games!!!). And i'm not gonna forget to mention how easy and smooth it is to shuffle thru the playlist.

As for the models and MC, the designing is originally outstanding! They are so good to the point where every time the MC meets a new female character I go like "GOD DAMN! This is definitely the character i'm gonna focus on", and few minutes later another new character appears and gets me all hyped up again. Face features, skin tones, body shapes and over all appearances are awesome! Male and female models!!

And the story is definitely not just "another horny teenager starting college". There is much much, much more to it and with no doubt will hit the player deep when the story progresses. There are already few very emotional scenes and tough decisions to make . Specially knowing that every character has a unique story.


I guess this should be enough reviewing as I honestly wasn't planning to say all of this. But once I started, I couldn't stop sharing thought after thought about this epic game.

I'm really glad that i'm one of your patrons @DrPinkCake and that somehow in a way makes me feel that i'm part of this master piece. This makes me very happy!

At first glance it looks a like click bait style of game.
Then I took a look at the creator and downloaded right away.
Game is great and certainly in top 10 of the archive of this site already.

What can I say... the decisions feel impactful and the characters feel like they have meaningful layers to them. It's a pretty believable storyline with nothing that's extremely exaggerated and the minigames are tough and rewarding, but doesn't require the player to grind for hours on end to see a result.

Really love the game, and I can't wait for more updates. Dr. Pinkcake cares about his work and it shows.

Best adult VN out there. The modeling is unique, the characters are multi-dimensional and so well written. The comedy is on point and genuinely funny. The music is fantastic. And the animations are far and away the best I've seen.

Just like the first game made by the same developer, the game has a story of truth and not just loose sex scenes midway,

As for the graphic part of the game, note 10 both in the quality of images or animations present so far in version 0.5.0, without doubt be among the games most viewed here of the Forum!

After playing version 0.5.0 the time has come to change from 4 to 5 stars !!!

But sincerly, still I missed for more content for Bella and Jill, I think that shoud be have more content for them than for soo many girls in the college, sometimes I think that developer used very much time in side story than should be the main story!

Although I don't like the author using the time focusing on the MC to get all the girls from the College, when he could use that time in the Protagonists!

The scenes with Bella and Jill are the best, because they always leave that crazy urge to play the next version right away to see what happens!

This game is a gem.

That game is amazing, a quite extraordinary experience, the game material optimization is very good, BGM is very nice, there is a small game to give DIK extra points (can cheat), the most important is still CV, into the game experience yourself!

Hands down the best game i've ever played of this genre. The quality of the images and the animations are amazing, superior to any other game out there. Also, the soundtracks are top notch. Definitely worth the download

Following Acting Lessons, the end of Season 2 of Dr. Pinkcake's Being a DIK is arguably the pinnacle of AVNs. It exudes a grounded realism that most AVNs fail to achieve and a remarkable MC who despite his ability to attract women, strikes players as someone struggling to find out what he wants in his own life.

There’s a girl for everyone, but these girls feel like real flesh and blood, with their own desires, fears, pasts and hopes for the future. Girls that were only perceived to be nothing more than side girls such as Quinn, Lily, and Riona have come out swinging in full force and arguably have fanbases that are equally passionate, if not more so, about said girl compared to the main girls. Even girls I never perceived to have ardent fans such as Karen Rebecca Johnson and Sally have their niche fanbases.

In most games, the love interests typically have flaws but they feel shoehorned in or superficial relative to their desire for the MC. The MC in these games typically can solve any problem simply by applying himself to the dilemma at hand. But one of the underrated qualities in BADIK is that the MC feels relatively ordinary and while he can motivate others to change circumstances, he isn’t capable of doing everything alone and requires others to help him, even if its to help others.

DPC’s writing is standout stellar (with some minor exceptions in the earlier episodes and some of Lynette’s diary sections if you don’t care too much about the MC’s mother) and retains a human feel that feels unparalleled. The humor is on point, whereas most other AVN developers use an excess of pop culture references or memes [Waifu Academy]. Many reveals and twists are foreshadowed in advance if you play close enough attention.



Although DPC’s development time increased over the 3 years that he’s been developing this game, I don’t believe that he’s milking his Patreons like the Ocean or ICSTOR and simply producing bigger chunks of content to fit in what he wants.

Visuals: 9/10 (Season 1 gets an 8/10, before DPC’s upgraded GPUs used in episode 7 onward. Season 2 gets an 10/10)

The best game I ever played..... waiting for second one.....the renders and animations are awesome. This game is completely in different level compared to the ones in the market..... The best storyline and interactive gameplay...I don't find any huge problem with the minigame it helps us to earn money faster and I can upgrade my combat skills even though it's hardly used in this episode. I think we might need some combat skills in upcoming episodes. Dr.Pinkcake did a great job in creating this awesome game.....you are the best in this field...

Absolutely wonderful, really like this dev, don't even know how hes pulling this off.

Loved Acting Lessons, think this will blow that out of the water. So saying that I hope he/she gets the support to finish this game. I also want to say I hope he/she doesn't pigeon hold us to any one character, and hope we get a 3 way relationship.

If you have played "Acting Lessons" then you know the amount of quality you are going to expect with this game.

Episode 1 was an AMAZING start. I love that DrPinkCake focuses much more on building the characters and relationships before the MC's dick goes NEAR anybody's ass.

Anyways, PLEASE SUPPORT HIM ON PATREON if you have the means.
He is probably the mosts deserving of support as a solo artist who obvious loves what he does and puts in so much work and love into his projects.

Fantastic game, 9/10.

Pros:

- Strong character development that actually contributes to character interactions and overall plot

- Choices with huge impacts

- Multitude of functions and access to side stories, bonuses, basically keeping you occupied throughout "free roam" phases of the game

- The music is amazingly appropriate, and there are plenty to choose from!

Cons:

- Personally, I don't gel well with choosing between 2 polarizing ends of a yardstick (DIK and CHICK), as I consider each choice to carry significance in its own way (eg: sneaking a peek at an underwear won't necessarily be something only a DIK can do under certain circumstances) and I'm afraid that the final character developed through these choices will be too stagnant

- A little NTR vibes here and there, but nothing too serious

Side Notes: If you're looking for a meet-n-fuck kind of game, this likely isn't for you. Be ready for a ride on a roller coaster of emotions

I have to admit that at first I wasn't sure about trying it, because let's say I was one of the persons that had to drop Acting Lessons. But after like all the friends only had to say good stuff about the game, I had to try it and now I regret that I didn't try it earlier.
But I have to say the game did a lot of stuff new, that I wish to be standard in the future. (Although it might actually be expensive).
The first thing that actually gave me the first big WOW moment, was the voice acting for Jill in the intro! I didn't thought that I would actually like voice acting in a VN that much.

Then of course the render quality. Not much to say about that other than awsome! But what impressed me the most in terms of graphic aren't even the big animation, but rather the small animations during the converstions. That really left me in awe! That way the characters really felt alive!

Then we have the college setting, which is surprisingly unique in adult games. As I like movies that take place in Highschool or College, it is something I am looking forward to.

The music is also amazing that you use in the game. I actually bought a CD of one of the bands

I think that the characters are really likable, all in their own way of course. My favorite of course is the redhead without any doupt. I mean I am surprised that I really like Sage's character

So yeah definitly liking the game and I will replay Acting Lessons for sure. (Well I already let myself spoiled, so now I feel safe, although it isn't the way it should be played, but that's just how I need it)

Lots of potential in this one. The combination of free roam (which will hopefully be expanded upon greatly), and story driven content makes for a complete gaming experience, even in it's early development. I'll be paying close attention.

I'm late to picking this one up even though I was looking forward to it. I have to say its every bit as riveting as Acting Lessons, and is probably the only example of a 0.1 that ended with me as impatient for the next volume as I am for the next episode of one of my weekly animes.

It is a great credit to the creator and the game that I'm even making a review, because I go out of my way most of the time to not comment or get involved in threads. My praise for Being a DIK is at the point that I feel I do it a disservice not to offer a well thought-out review.

Seriously, great storytelling. Characters are obviously deep and well thought out (and I would expect no less from Dr.PinkCake). What strikes me when it comes to the characters and characterization, is there are no characters "left behind". What I mean is that every character has a name, and a clearly defined personality, to the point that I'm really left wondering just how deep Dr. PinkCake's notes are when it comes to this kind of thing.

Where some school/college based games choose to highlight the "speaker" and leave the others intentionally as black silhouettes (which is not itself a bad decision either) this game opts to name and develop every character.

There are a number of scenes where the background is made up of other characters that we either have not met at that point, or have seen in passing, and I think that is great. It is a huge plus to the immersion to have so many fully fleshed out characters. And I like the idea that if I see a glimpse of someone in the hallway, they aren't just filler, I will probably get to meet them some day.

I've played through the available content twice now, once as my "pure" character personality, and another trying for as much extra/DIK content as possible. I was very impressed at how the subtle choices of the game have such massive impact on your interactions with the characters. Everything from the dialogue to your general personality is affected by the DIK/Chick Scale, and it is obviously well thought out to do so. I am excited to hear that there is going to be content put in for a "neutral" path as well, as it is admittedly an initial concern that by taking a neutral approach you could miss a lot of content.

The only QoL change I've seen that I think is worth considering is maybe consider a more fleshed out bypass option that lets you play some mini-games and not others, instead of all or nothing.

I say this because I'm finding I'm not a huge fan of the Brawler Mini-Game, but the other 3 are great and immersive. (Note: The brawler mini-game is still immersive, its just a frustrating game for me so far, hence the initial dislike).

In conclusion, despite being only the first episode of this game, it has risen almost instantly in my long list of played games to the top of my favorites. This is not altogether unexpected, as I was a huge fan of Dr. PinkCake's last work, Acting Lessons, but I am pleased that the quality of story, characters, and overall experience that was present in AL has remained here in DIK. I look forward to playing through this new story and world that is being built.

Good Graphics and animation, some games look cheap when using those 3d models, this game does not, in fact it is pretty well done.

Well written story, nothing feels too forced, also the HOTs are a little over the top with their slutty thing.

I like how there are some free roaming parts within a rather linear story, they could however offer more possibilities ( I am sure there is more to come).

The Fighting System could be a little better, it feels clunky.

Long time looking for game like that. Its not only about sex but a good written story . Always was a huge fun of the college comedies like American Pie and Blue Mountain State, so this game is perfectly fits me.

This is what a professionally done game looks like. The renders are nearly impeccable, the music is perfect for the mood and setting (except for the intro to the game it is deafening) the story and dialog are nearly perfect (it feels like watching a movie like animal house) the choices are varied and actually make a difference, the mini games are short and to the point and do not detract from the enjoyment of the game, the character models are distinct and beautiful. I can't give this game enough praise. It really feels like a triple A game made for adults. I... I think I'm in love...
