That check is specially for detecting 1BadikCh.rpy file so if you tried to used it for loading your modded saves you can rename it at least as mentioned above. Also you can try this guide from scrappy, 0.8.0 just added two more variables for mods check: cheatcat2 and cheatcat3

Regarding the crash when you try to load a (cheated / modded) savegame: the check in the game is this:

if renpy.loadable("1NewCheatMod.rpyc"):
    $ persistent._clear(progress=True)
    $ renpy.save_persistent()
    $ renpy.quit()

So, if you use said 1NewCeatMod in your 0.8 game, rename it

Just following up on this, because I don't have the 1NewCheatMod in my 0.8 directory I can continue with my modded save. Not ideal (since we don't have Scrappy's new update yet for walkthrough), but the game "works" fine

There's Derek, Tommy, Neil, Chad, Dawe, Jacob, Leon, Caleb, Nick, Tybalt, Rich, Rusty to name a few.

So what can I do?

Wait for the modders to bypass the check or just play vanilla but delete (backup first) your appdata/roaming/renpy/badik folder first because that's where your save is and clean install the chapter 8 by deleting your old badik (chapter 7 release) first as that also includes saves folder. OR do what Marcus9 said a few comments up.

As for the "DRM" DPC put that ages ago. It isn't a new thing. He just doesn't want to deal with people reporting bugs that aren't related to his game, as he didn't code the mods. I can only imagine an onslaught of reports that DPC cannot debug because it's not part of his code anyways but an injected code via a mod. A waste of his inbox space reserved for actual bug reporting on his game. That's why his disclaimer is if you modded your game then any bug that you encountered should be reported to the modder.
