Posting this from a conversation I had after the release dropped, since a bunch people keep thinking it was the front door.

You're right. I remember the stairs from the previous episodes intro animation.

But I also remember some dude's silhouette walking into the frame of the the open door, coming from the room...

Which means
1. Someone is in the locked-now-unlocked room. Which is insane.
2. Some body/body like object is in there, and gets triggered when the door is opened. Also insane.
3. DPC is being a goofball to play with the Hallowe'en imagery/"Tommy's jump scare." (Which is most likely, and childish.)

Now we have to guess it was unlocked since Bella was using it for storage/Christmas decor? But then why would she be freaking out if it gets opened when she'd have to have gone in there to get stuff? Weren't we just helping her decorate in her path?

And why would Maya be confused? Enough for our MC to stop holding Derek to go join her looking at a big dark storage room?

Seems like fabricated conflict and suspense for...towels?

Maya: "Where are the towels!?"
*uses superhuman Maya strength to opened locked door*
Maya: "Uhh..."
MC: "What is it?"
MC *leaves his best friend to bleed in Jills arms to help Maya be confused*
MC: "..."
Bella: "..."
Bella: *neurotic librarian powers activate*
Bella: *stares into the abyss which is the room she forgot to organize and clean for years*
Bella: wow I totally forgot to lock that door. I'm so embarrassed. Thank goodness this wasn't the front door, and my AWOL husband returned. That would give me an even bigger panic attack.
MC: "Well, that's a big dark storage room we can't see into, because it's dark. Oh well, Maya. Let's go find some towels and drag Derek to the outside door where the car is. Man, this free-roam house is impossible to navigate. C'mon Derek! Let's get you to Bella's car."

Since none of our characters are to be seen in the Episode 9 opening, I'd say one or all of them are in that room and just exiting.

They also think that Maya is running outside looking for towels :KEK:
She never got outside. It makes more sense she's panicking and just opening doors. As opposed to having instant lockpicking skills, or, Bella, Ms. Librarian, forgetting to lock the door...Or, someone actually opening the door from the previous side, as implied by Episode 10's cinematic. And why the MC would join her is baffling considering the circumstance.

The story implied that James is simply missing, so we tend to think "oh, it's doing the thing we expect." Which is basic writing. So now we're contemplating the layout of a room for a confusing cliffhanger. Which is worse than waiting next season for your favorite show to continue.

It's assumed the group knows the layout of the upstairs lounge (and perhaps the bathroom there), but not the ground floor. And we're not sure where Bella keeps the car/driveway is exactly in relation to the ground floor layout.

Now the suspense is...what's in the (magically unlocked) room while my friend bleeds out?
As opposed to "Oh is this...James? Some guy? WHO CARES? Hey Bella, stop spacing out! We need your car! Bella?"

In either case, MC would still be like "GET THE DAMN TOWELS!"

Interesting... Like what? I mean, what would something the MC cares about be doing locked in Bella's room.
Maybe anything that shows there was a friendship between Bella to Neil and/or Lynette that for some reason she wants to keep hidden. Why she would want to keep it hidden though, no idea.

Will there be towels at these events?
Of course, those will be needed to dry themselfs after heavy sex.

It's quite obviously just going to be the MC walking out of that room. The flashforward at the start of Ep 9 is likely a few beats ahead of where Ep 11 finishes off, which means Derek's probably been rushed off to hospital at this point and, for whatever reason, the MC has gone into that room and is now coming out of it.

Not really that complicted to figure out this is what it will end up being.
Now we have to guess it was unlocked since Bella was using it for storage/Christmas decor?
Obvious answer is that Bella used this usually locked room to store some of the furniture that has clearly been movied out of the main room to make way for the massive table. She's been getting very relaxed and carefree as of late, so not unlikely that this led her to forget to lock the door as she normally would have.
But then why would she be freaking out if it gets opened when she'd have to have gone in there to get stuff? Weren't we just helping her decorate in her path?
Because clearly there's something else in that room, something she really wanted to keep hidden, likely because it's traumatic to her. This is where people are getting the idea that it could be a child's room and that Bella lost a young child and is the reason why James left. But even if it's not that, there's clearly something in there she didn't want people to see, and no, it's not going to be something ridiculous like a dead body, or comatose James, or a sex dungeon, it will be something deeply emotionally traumatic to Bella from her past that she's kept hidden but also not removed from that room even though she probably should have.
And why would Maya be confused? Enough for our MC to stop holding Derek to go join her looking at a big dark storage room?

Because again, whatever is in there has surprised her and him. It's a shock revelation about Bella, something they didn't know about her, and that's what leads to clear and obvious surprise. Like I said, a room decorated like a child's bedroom, with toys and other such things, could be the kind of big surprise that would stop her in her tracks and it's likely to be something along those lines.

More like DPC is filling in the blanks from his outline from god knows how many years ago, and had to make a cheesy animation for Episode 9/Tommy's jump scare cut.

Unless that room is a surgery, no one would be in that room. And even if a surgery, you wouldn't put everyone in there anyway. I highly doubt anyone has medical knowledge of re-attaching fingers. This is a contrived setup.

As a forced cliffhanger, it makes very little to any sense, and would've been more believable if it was just a door to outside. Leaving the opportunity for anyone to be on the outside. Seriously, does anyone honestly think it's Bella's mummified husband in there? And if not, who cares? What would cause Maya and MC to stop in a crisis?

Let's get to the hospital.

It's such a dumb setup; a crisis would take more precedence over a mysterious storage room. Because...towels? Because Bella forgot to lock it? It's as if DPC doesn't know plot structure, pacing, or flow, but thinks it's time for a mystery reveal cliffhanger?

How'd that payoff waiting 1+ years for a non-interactive Riona resolution scene go? Can't help her, or Quinn? Here, have a cinematic about a children's story rodent eating another.

Yeah...great.
