Which got me thinking about Bella’s secret: I expected her husband and kid to be dead due to some accident, but that doesn’t really fit. Because if it was just some accident Jill could just have told the MC. Something happened that is very personal to Bella. Now, considering we’re dealing with a developer who isn’t exactly known for light drama (play Acting Lessons), I think I’ve figured out what happened: Bella’s kid, a boy, died because of something that Bella "did" and James left her because of it. This can also include an abortion or a miscarriage.

That's an interesting theory! But I don't think James left her. I get the impression that for some time she expected him to come back. I mean there are a lot of possibilities. She could have been informed of his death and in denial... or he could have left on some sort of business and never came back. Either way, I get the feeling that for a while she wanted to believe that he'd come back but he never did... and it's only recently (prior to the events of BaDIK) that she started accepting that he isn't coming. That's why she was so guarded and withdrawn at the start of the story. She's grieving and in a deep depression.

Being close friends with Jill, she likely shared some of her feelings with her, but I suspect she didn't share all of it. My theory is that at the start of the story, Bella was rock bottom. She was suicidal, and that's something Jill doesn't know about. What's in the room? It's a stool and a rope. She was very close to doing it until she got to know Tremolo, who unknowingly started pulling her out of her depression. Tremolo saved her life.

But now since the door is open, everyone knows her secret. Everyone knows how close she was.

Some people might genuinely not used mods, but instead downloaded other people's save files which included .persistent file containing identifier from a mod, that was used by people who supplied the saves.

Which is very low chance and if they use the save file of SteveyP they should not experiences this because his save files does not use mods.

If MC showed no interest beyond scripted stuff, it's mainly that Bella didn’t trust Jill with this earlier on, since they're supposed to be best friends. And maybe a little if what we learned in 11 could be a factor. And yeah a little about how Bella pushed her towards MC before/MC wasn't good enough for Jill.

If they kept dating but it didn't work out, the balance shifts to about 50/50: the lack of trust, and that Bella is banging the guy Jill was dating.

And of course, if MC got close enough to Jill that she felt she was falling in love with him... well that's pretty self explanatory.

How often do emotions and logic line-up?

She met him and quickly got a bit of a 'crush' on him.

It's normal to feel a bit disappointed, sad, whatever, in that situation.
Toss in that it's a quirk of the human condition that when we feel pain (like sadness) we often transition pretty quickly to anger.
Because anger is more comfortable then pain.

Eventually that pain/anger pass.
