I thought about it in the past and I flopped around on whether it was "okay" for a DIK MC to do that. I eventually settled on a "Can't condone it but it makes perfect sense."There is a fourth instance where he goes too far: smashing Oscar for giving rude comments. If Oscar was physically harassing Josy I would've accepted it, but Oscar didn't do that (yet).
Doubly so if MC is a DIK and is pinning after Josy and wants to get back with her, so hearing that someone badmouths her and calls her names...well, that might trigger a part of him. Enough to punch the dude and take him down. And the fact that TOMMY goes to find the guy and give his own knuckle sandwiches seems to be perfectly in line with the Massive DIK mindset. (Tommy does it even if you throw him out.)
I'm not saying it's okay, but it's perfectly in character and not something that's TOO far. Too far would be MC beating him to a pulp, all he did was punch him down and assert dominance: making sure the guy knew calling Josy (and any other friend of his) bad names was going to end badly for him.
