Not necessarily. There are more than enough cases in real life where the woman/girl didn't know she was pregnant until about a month before the baby was born, if at all. At her age a missing period also isn't always an indicator, since women can still get pregnant after the menopause, of which she could have reached that age. Another reason to stop having periods is by using the anticonception pill continuously, but I doubt that is the case with her if she thinks she cannot get pregnang.
I don't see it that way. The whole point of the Stephen flashback is to show a different side of the character, not the corrupt, rotten asshole we know. It's an application of the gray morality that DPC has used over and over again - like he doing with Quinn, Patrick and here too. We see a young man who had principles - he didn't want to commit a crime at work, for this he was fired. We see a man whose personal life is going to hell because he and his wife are completely incompatible. We see him before he's completely screwed.
