I did just update the projection post to incorporate DPCs 60% completion statement. September 2026 was accurate. Who knows what future complications will occur.
You can tell people till you are blue in the face that September is the most realistic release date, but they will never listen. June seems to be the most popular "realistic" prediction now, with September being a pessimistic look.

This far out I don't think there such thing as a realistic release date, if it June that awesome problem is it December 15 and at some point DPC is going to say it needs more. Lets see where things are in March might be wise

I've already got my first gray hair this year. I just hope it's over while I can still go to the bathroom by myself.

Are there any fan translations of this game into other languages? I'm interested in Polish, for example.
Being a DIK [v0.11.1] Translation patch for 19 languages and English Voice

Language:
(19 languages support bilingual display with English}
Ukrainian, Vietnamese, Turkish, Thai, Spanish, Russian, Portuguese, Polish, Italian, Indonesian, Hindi, German, French, Dutch, Arabic, Taiwanese, Japanese, Korean, Chinese.English

Usage:

Please make sure to back up your game and save files.
After extracting, Put the files into the "game" folder.Since the translation files are quite large, loading may take a bit longer.Inside the tl folder, you can keep your preferred language. If you don’t need voice, you don’t need to download voice.zip.

I think I'm doing something wrong, I moved the patch to the game files, now I have the "select your language" option in the settings, but no matter what I choose, it's still only English, nothing changes.

She assigned us Sally as a partner instead of Cindy, that knocks off a point :cautious:
multiple points so many that Phillip is also above her too

ATARA!

Here's a list of the people the mc's been doing sexy shit with, and my take on eligible wifeness:
  • Ashley - Nope, too vanilla in what is already a seriously vanilla playing field, thinks mc's cock won't fit (don't they all though), only likes retards (I mean that scientifically).
  • Becky - No. Her cooch stinks. Her personality stinks. Her prowess in bed stinks.
  • Bianca - Cheating on her best friend... Yeah, nah.
  • Brandi - She could be wonderful, if she had more than 2 dimensions, and then there's that whole stripping for a living thing that not all guys can work with. I'll just say Nah and move on.
  • Camila - She's pretty cool. She's sucking cock right now to make ends meet, but once she graduates she can put all that behind her. Potential yes?
  • Cathy - Call me picky, but no.
  • Elena - She likes to be shared around. You wanna run with that, be my guest.
  • Heather - Who knows what she'd be like if she wasn't so pissed at Tommy all the time. She might actually be a decent human being. But no for now.
  • Isabella - She killed her first husband, you wanna be next?! Fuck no!
  • Jade - Angry power-playing woman. I don't think so.
  • Jill - She's kinda stupid, and stubborn, and does shit behind your back, and sometimes a real pain in the ass. Sounds like typical wife material to me... So yes? No.
  • Josy - She can't cook. Nope. Ok, maybe she can learn to cook. Hmm, she'd be a fun new wife. We'd probably have to kill Maya though, because she'd be a big distraction, whining about shit all the time.
  • Lily - Interesting... She's got her shit sorted... But she's not into love and all that, or at least that's what she says...
  • Madame Rose - Who the fuck put her on this list!?
  • Maya - I dunno. I didn't get through episode 11 M&J playthrough, is she less of a pain in the ass now her loan shit is sorted? Cause she was a pain in the ass mostly prior...
  • Melanie - She's cool, but possibly a useless wife. I dunno.
  • Mona - She dumb.
  • Nicole - I'd say she's probably the best candidate, as long as you can handle a step-kid, and the age difference. She's got her shit sorted, and she's not a controlling psycho like all the other older women in the game.
  • Nora - Nope, she didn't believe the mc that her cunt cat spilt the shit. If she's gonna take the cat's side over the mc, you gotta walk.
  • Quinn - Nope, always taking short cuts. You'll be eating microwave meals for the rest of your life.
  • Riona - Her family is probably baggage that we'll never get into, but she could be a fun girl to make a go of it with.
  • Rose - She's almost as 2d as Brandi, but at least you'd know how the kids would look.
  • Sage - When it's good, it'd be good. When it's bad, it'd be a nightmare. Angry women... Nah.
  • Sally - Turns out she's a dumbass who can't accept it. Nope.
  • Sandy - You might wake up and find she's eaten one of your legs. Nope.
  • Sarah - She's so not ready for any kind of commitment. That's a no.
  • Tara - She's actually pretty cool. Owns up to her shit (would she be the first wife in history to do so?) I'm gonna say she's not cheating on her guy because it's over with her guy, yeah, that's what I believe.
  • Tiffani - Nah, I don't have a good reason, but nah.
  • Zoey - Hmm. She's changed a fair bit. The jury is still out, but she seems to have her head screwed on a bit better now.
So... basically... I don't fucking know...

On an unrelated note, here's more proof DPC's gotta use render guided AI for his movies. This took a couple of hours instead of a couple of weeks:

Everyone having fun at the BBQ (watch with sound, it's better).
you forgot CIndy but LOL at Ashley & Becky

Well he still makes a few massive mistakes. Firstly it's 10 months not 9. There was at least a month's worth of work done on ep 12 when ep 11 was released. Second when the progress reaches 100% there is still testing to do. That might add another month. Third the pace is the average of more than half the project so adding 20% overage is one hell of an unforeseen set back.

So the first calculation is too small and the increase is for the wrong reason. It's a situation where the mistakes might cancel each other out. It's annoying because he might have gotten the right answer by sheer luck and is definitely going to assume it was because of skill.

If we assume about 7 months for the remaining 40% we'd be at 100% in early July. If testing is done within a month the release will be early August. If it takes a bit more so that the game is ready for release in mid to late August DPC will release the game in the first week of September because of Patreon.

If the remaining 40% and the subsequent testing is done significantly faster we might have a July release. June is heavily optimistic.

One thing that might massively impact the calculation is the accuracy of that 60%. If DPC was being cautious and a more accurate number is as much as 65%, we might indeed be looking at a June release. If he severely underestimated the amount of remaining work and the progress is significantly below 60%, we'll be lucky to get an August release.

Try selecting a language and restarting the game. See if after restart the settings remember what you chose and if the game is still in English in spite of that. And play a bit of the actual game to check for that. The menus might remain in English no matter what the language is set to.

I know. I've already restarted the game, and the language seems to be saving. I have "Polish and English" selected because "Polish" alone can't be selected. Despite this, the dialogues are still only in English. I've even tried starting a new game, and still nothing.

Beats me since I don't use the patch. Did you put the files in the "game" folder? Mods generally don't go in the folder where the .exe is.

At the end of Episode 2, the Alphas get their first pictures from the DIK laptop. In Episode 11, Dawe gets a picture of the MC emptying the condom into his shaker. This makes me wonder if there's still a traitor among the DIKs after Nick's departure, or if they downloaded the pictures twice before Rusty changed the passwords. At least Derek is spared the release of his granny sex video.

There's another point to consider. Anthony probably gets a picture of Ashley and Derek, taken before the camera in Derek's room was discovered. Well, at least we have a rough timeframe for that. On the Derek branch of Episode 4, the MC can respond to a Cluck prompting the two of them to finally get a room. All the pictures seem to be from the DIK laptop. However, I still wonder if the pictures of Arieth/Jacob and Ashley/Derek were on the DIK laptop. If so, then the DIK laptop was connected to the camera. The mystery isn't hard to solve. It was Vinny. When he was with the DIKs, he had access to both the room and the laptop. He installed the camera and connected it to the laptop.

So now we know that pictures were taken from the laptop twice. One in Episode 2, because it includes the picture of Arieth and Jacob. The picture of Ashley and Derek was probably taken in Episode 4, before the party. What conclusion can we draw from this? Nick is a traitor.

I wrote this down because Tybalt is likely responsible for the letters in Episode 2 and got the pictures from Nick. Tybalt has devised a nasty plan to get revenge on the DIKs and also on Cathy, who is making his mother's life difficult. He asks Nick again to get pictures from the DIK laptop because he needs pictures showing that Derek and the MC were in his room. He needs them to discredit the MC to Jill. He gives Nick a USB stick to download the pictures. What Nick doesn't know is that Tybalt infected the USB drive with a virus, which he probably got from a nerd (I'm guessing Bert in this case, not Magnar). Nick gets the laptop, plugs in the USB drive, and enters the password. This gives someone else access to the laptop, who then uses the Cathy Cluck method during the download. That's why Nick didn't say anything, because then he'd have to admit he wanted to download pictures from the laptop.

Nick didn't give the USB drive with the pictures to Tybalt, though. In Episode 11, Nick gives the USB drive with the pictures to the nerds because he wants revenge. But Magnar finds the virus and learns that Tybalt was the reason Cathy ultimately quit her job. Magnar informs Sage and Isabella. Magnar is interested in who helped Tybalt with the virus. Sage and Isabella also want revenge on Tybalt and Dawe. Yes, and also to Dawe, because he distributed the Cathy pictures on campus. Chad should finally come out, and Anthony shouldn't stand in the way of Ashley and Derek's happiness.

Oh, I am well aware of this - as I put in a post yesterday, we can trace the start of the development to the 8th February, when he pretty much states in the final status update for Episode 11 he's started rendering for episode 12 - we can actually go back further than this to the update on the 17th January where he claims hes began writing content and code for it.

We know that he estimated the render queue for episode 11 to be complete between the 7-9 and given the update on the 9th February he handed it to the Beta tester on the 8th, the render queue likely emptied on the 7th - with no down time at all, it means he would have had to have animations and the likes posed ready to render - granted the work on 12 wont have been as full on as it could have been as he still needed to complete 11 and then tidy it bugs there after. Either way, it's a definite 10 months for the 60% claimed (and how accurate that 60% is, I don't even think DPC knows)

I agree with you 100% on your estimates. Until recently, I was firmly in the 4th September - the Steam/Gog announcement made me think we'd get it in August, but as you said, Patreon reasons may push that to September - Either way, June's very Optimistic the data we have at the moment doesn't really align with him getting remaining renders and it tested in 6 months.

Yes, everything went into the "game" folder. It looks like I did everything right because I have the option to select the language, but it simply doesn't change anything :cautious:

Happy Friday, everyone!

Warning! Today's post is a behemoth. If you're only interested in the normal weekly development content, you can stop reading after the development news section.

I will talk about the Steam/GOG news and try my best to clarify everything about the new 4K mode.

Development news
I've had a great week creating art. It's been smooth and fast, and I've been happy with my daily progress.

There are 21 scenes left to create for the free roam event. They vary in length, with some very long and others short. Some of these scenes are missing writing. I estimate I'm 65-70% done with the free roam event.

Way earlier in the development cycle, I mentioned a special feature that I had implemented. This week, I created the art it needed, tested it in-game, and made some tweaks to improve it. I had a lot of fun with the feature, and I think you will enjoy it too.

The 92-second-long cutscene animation is now 75% complete. The render speed has been very good this week.

22 animations and 478 statics are in the render queue, and two of my PCs are now rendering static renders because I want that part of the queue to deplete faster so I can show you some fresh previews.

I will continue working on the free roam event next week, too. We'll see how far I get. I might reach the point where I need to write more scenes for it.

Steam/GOG news
If you missed it, or couldn't see it because of regional settings - I know, it sucks - here's a recap of Wednesday's news for Steam and GOG.

The title of Episode 12 was revealed: "Smoke and Fire".

The overall Season 3 development is at 90% completion.

The overall development for episode 12 is at 60% completion.

Here are the new screenshots you may have missed.

And if you'd like to view the NSFW trailer, it's in the attachments at the bottom of this post.

In the news, I also revealed that I've been working on a 4K mode this year. And that, my friends, is what the rest of the post will be about.

4K mode
I want to clarify what the 4K mode is and answer questions I've seen come up. It will get fairly technical at times, but I've tried my best to explain it.

What is the 4K mode?
Every render, GUI element, and animation frame from Season 3 has been reprocessed and tailored for a 4K experience. You can play the game in 4K resolution instead of full HD, and, while recommended, you don't need a 4K monitor to enjoy this mode, as RenPy will scale the game to your monitor.

The 4K mode is optional and modular. If you don't want it, don't download it.

The 4K mode requires roughly 90 GB of extra disk space and may not be suitable for older computers. You can enable the 4K mode in the settings menu if the game detects 4K files. It will look like this in-game.

View attachment 5520993
Why did you add the 4K mode?
I wanted to treat players to something special. The game looks beautiful in 4K. By making it 4K, I have future-proofed the game, so it should take longer for it to look dated.

After carefully evaluating how to make it a reality, I realized it wouldn't require much extra development time and that I could maintain a straightforward, automated development process to support both full HD and 4K modes. I didn't want to implement it if it meant a significant increase in development time.

Will it be available on Patreon?
I will investigate how to make this possible. I will be straight with you, distributing 90-100 GB of data outside of fast CDN servers that Steam and GOG use is a huge hurdle.

Some of you have already experienced the difficulties of downloading the current Season 3 version from Patreon, and it was less than 20 GB. I will investigate if and how it's feasible to achieve this distribution for patrons.

How is the 4K mode possible?
This will get fairly technical, but here's the full explanation of why I could create a 4K mode of Season 3 without re-rendering everything.

Ever since I started developing Being a DIK, I have rendered every render and animation in 4K (3840x2160) resolution. This might seem confusing, since the game you have played was in full HD (1920x1080) all this time. But once you understand my render-making process, it becomes clearer.

When you render an image in DAZ3D, you perform iterations of ray tracing. The results of each iteration are pooled, and from these calculations, you get clearer signals with each pooled iteration. You also get what's called noise, or maybe you know it better as grain. Noise works the opposite way of the signal with increased iterations. While the signal increases with every iteration, the noise dissipates. Here's an example.

View attachment 5520992
In this case, I've rendered the same image with 100, 1000, and 10,000 iterations of ray tracing. You can see that it becomes clearer as the iteration count increases, and the noise (grain) dissipates.

To get a beautiful, clear render, you need a very high signal-to-noise ratio, and there are several ways to achieve it.

  1. You can render with a high iteration count.
  2. You can downsample your final image from a higher-resolution image.
  3. You can apply a denoiser after rendering.
In my art, I use methods 1 and 2. I don't use method 3 because of reasons outside the scope of this text.

By removing method 2 - the downsampling - from my process, I could achieve a 4K mode without re-rendering.

When you downsample an image, you reduce its size by a factor. In my case, I reduced the 4K images to full HD. In this example, you can see how the noise is reduced by downsampling from 4K to full HD. You will lose resolution, but get a sharper signal and less noise.

View attachment 5520991
Downsampling uses what's known as the nearest-neighbor principle. In this case, 4 pixels will merge into 1, and the result is an average of the surrounding pixels (the nearest neighbors). The signal thus increases, and you can see this as another pooled result - much like pooled iterations.

By combining methods 1 and 2, I found that the render efficiency increased. I could get a higher quality render in a shorter time than if I were to render at the target resolution using only method 1.

To achieve 4K mode without re-rendering all art, I skipped the downsampling step, accepted a little bit of extra noise, and applied the remaining post-processing to the images. By doing this, nothing needed to be re-rendered (except for some botched animations that had missing frames on my backup disks, which store the raw files).

How does the 4K mode affect development times going forward?
This has not affected any render times. I do not render longer because of the 4K mode, nor would I render faster if I didn't create it.

Hardware capabilities determine render times, and they have improved with each GPU generation. It improved until the point where 4K mode was possible with Season 3 without me planning for it.

It feels weird to say the 4K mode was a hindsight feature, but it has been a happy coincidence. It was made possible by increasing the iteration count and render quality to the point where removing downsampling didn't significantly affect the render quality.

Every script I use will now automatically post-process an image in both 4K and full HD. I have even automated animation processing with a .bat file that runs on a double-click and puts everything together automatically.

Furthermore, I have written a script to cross-check images between 4K and full HD folders to ensure they are identical, removing time-consuming work.

I haven't changed how I manually work in DAZ3D or Photoshop. The changes are made at a script level, which is why I can say the 4K mode does not significantly impact development time.

Will Season 1 and 2 be in 4K mode too?
Not at the moment. I would much rather remaster Seasons 1 and 2 from scratch in the future than introduce a 4K mode right now. However, as I have mentioned in my Q&As, my main priority is to finish the game before any of those ideas are explored.

Phew
If you're still here, I hope this has been helpful, illuminating, comforting, interesting, or just a big wall of text.

If you have any follow-up questions, you can always fire away below, and I'll try to answer.

Thanks for your time reading this!

(And don't forget the trailer in the attachment below)

Have a great weekend.
