Yes, the TV is definitely at an angle. But it's also definitely not right up against the wall. You can see from the right side that the TV stand has quite a bit of depth. And so the same should apply to the left side of the TV.It's tough to say from a 2D photo, but I think the TV is at an angle. It looks to me like the left-hand corner of the TV is pretty close to the wall. CRTs would taper so being at an angle helps, but in my experience TVs of that size had a very deep draft.
Also, I get what you mean by CRT TVs have a very deep draft, but the Sony Trinitrons were known for a shallower physical depth compared to similar sized TVs from other brands.
