You support the development (the developer fronts the costs and take a risk) or being a patron (you front the costs and take a risk but get the game for free when it is done). Doing both of these things are greedy, like trying to have the cake and eat it at the same time. Imagine if EA, Ubisoft, Rockstar or any other big AAA game developer asked you to fund the developemnt of their game and also buy the game for $70 bucks. That wouldn't fly at all, but that is exactly what DPC is doing. You do by buying also, but the whole point is to support the development. Game companies have investors but private developers don't. If nobody supports the development then the game can't be developed, or it will take a hell of a lot longer since they will only be able to work on it in their free time. Many of them, like DPC, have this as their full-time job.
Without it, majority of the games here wouldn't exist because nobody would be able to develop it.
Many developers on Patreon also have that you have to support them for a couple of months before you get the game, to make sure people don't just pay for one month and then bail, but DPC isn't one of them.
You're doing mental gymnastics to justify why anyone should pay for the development cost two times. Kickstarter/crowdfunding is a non-greedy way to actually support the development costs of a game while getting the game for a set amount of money.
