VN Ren'Py Being a DIK [v0.11.1] [DrPinkCake]

DPC loves the character and apparently expected the same from most of the audience, but he underestimates the players, many of them are aggressive simps who saw Zoey as a threat to their virtual waifu. So we have this controversy from the audience.

I can't say I blame anyone who feels this way. I'll say it again, Zoey being brought in right after we chose our favorite girl in EP.8 killed her chance of getting a good reception. What should the players think?

1- Oh, the MC's ex-girlfriend is back! Cool!
2- Shit! Right now? She's not going to try to screw the MC over, is she?

Since she returned to the plot I've been ignoring Zoey (unfortunately), but I have to. I have no idea what she's planning. The MC tried to find out by asking her why she came back, but she didn't know how to answer (or didn't want to answer). It's hard for Zoey to win the players' affection when she's added to the plot like this.

MC might have a connection and a past with her, but us as players don't.

The problem I have with zoey is she dumped the mc ran off failed and came back trying to start where it ended. And that doesnt work very often. In every other vn ive played the former girlfriend had a a much better feel - jackie in u4ia is my favorite of all the girls, erynn in intertwined and step in LoF ( other than cece) were all my favorite girls. And any time I play a path not on that girls path i feel bad for them. I dont feel bad for zoey.

Zoey was very unfairly treated by DPC. The way she was introduced made the players raise their shields without giving them any chance to get to know Zoey (myself included). She is not a bad character, but the vibe she gives of "I'm going to fuck up your life if you don't take me back" leaves a bad taste in my mouth (and in the mouths of other players too).

Her being brought back right after we chose our favorite girl was an affront. I didn't like it, it seems like DPC only brought her in to cause headaches. Which is a shame because Zoey is charismatic and could be a beloved character, but DPC screwed her over by bringing her back into the plot like that.

She was introduced the way he wanted to introduce her, some folks like it and as such like her, some don't.

It's very personal, I don't dislike how she's written or the part that she can play in the story, I simply dislike the type of person she represents.

I bet most, if not everyone, had the dis/pleasure of meeting someone like her in their life, in some case the relationship can go on (even more so at distance) as friends, but when they stop showing any kind of interest in you (which is fine btw), they lose also the right of being called friend.

The reaction I had with "my" Zoey when she popped her ugly ass up again was to hand her couple of things she had left behind and when she tried to mend the situation, I started laughing and accompanied her to the door, the one thing I was sure NOT to do was crying in front of her.

We can say that her leadership in the first two months of the game was affected by a lot of shit that pushed her as a president into the background (the drama with Chad, and then the flu put her out of action for a weekand she making mistakes ofc too), but Ep.10 and her mediation in negotiations between the DIKs and the jocks showed her leadership qualities - Sage is a good diplomat, knows how to negotiate and effectively use the available leverage. Unlike Quinn. Even though I like her being a "bad bitch" but she is a terrible leader and chess player, everything turns into chaos for her. Thats the truth.

Yeah, but that moment of leadership isn't going to make up for all the problems quinn left behind thanks to sage being too busy chasing chad.

I'll tell you what she plans: nothing. She has no plans to fix the situation. The MC (player) will decide and everything is in your hands. Fortunately, we have variability and a whole multiverse. She doesn't have to be liked by everyone, but she's got her niche. Oh, the hot alt chick with the tomboy attitude is back? Cool, I'll make a run for her.

It's one of the most frustrating things for me and it is a problem across many AVNs. We are encouraged to self insert (and given options to name the MC), but then we have the MC's deep connection with a certain person, that we just don't have.

If you are reading along as story then this is perfectly fine, but if you self-insert (which I always do), it's very frustrating.

But to be fair, Zoey is nowhere near as bad as some other exes or childhood friends that get forced upon us in other AVNs.

Will be one) set up but like I said her actions made me not feel sorry for her not getting her man while for example in lof i feel

First of all I'm not a follower of the "church of [insert here your character]" even tough I do have my preferences.

After playing BADIK a few more times, especially the interlude, I started to see Zoey's character from a different light. She made a mistake, motivated by the erroneous idea that the moment of her grandmother death, who always supported her (and from my own experience I connect with that part the story very easily) was her last chance to actually try a new life.

In her hasty calculation, made worse by the loss and consequent grief, she makes a decision that does not take the MC into consideration. And that's her sin. In my view, perhaps the only one, but it did a lot of damage to both her and the MC. It was playing again that I realized that I had made this mistake myself once. Friends of mine also, to a greater or lesser extent, made the same mistake. Who never? I really don't see reason for hate; I'd say, at least for me, it's more a question of broken a implicit confidence, a love that was generaly translated the only way rebel teenagers knows how: doing sex e stupid stuff.

And I agree: the moment couldn't be worst for reckoning between the two...and that's life!! Life doesn't give shit about the best moment for us to deal with bad choices, stupid ideas or dreams. The boomerang never forgets. Zoey and MC create another life for themselves when they both parted ways and to realocate what that person means to you, with all the fellings and memories...it's rather quite complicated.

Now, in terms narrative, to me it looked tha DPC just did it for sake of chaos, to add some spicy and weight to the choices tha may come yet

Sadly, but you're right Milton. DPC paid too little attention to immersing the player and making people empathize with her. We have been building relationships with girls for many years, and here in a short episode DPC tries to make us fall in love with Zoey, but most of the time we see not her past with MC, but hanging out with Californian junkies. This is my main complaint about Interlude - weak writing.
It worked with me because of her personality and looks, but if for example it was not girl like Zoey, but some weak character, some boring mediocre girl next door, I wouldn't paid attention.

That Sage's weak side: she easily become obsessed. By the guy, by some idea and don't see what happens around. She's not dumb, just very passionate.

Maybe in the future when players are sure that Zoey won't cause any problems for the MC she might gain some fans. But by then it will (probably) be too late for her to become anyone's favorite.

She gathered her pretty solid group of fans after Ep.9 by stealing attention at that Halloween party, also the most known her fans such as AchedCroissant, Glorious LIME and C.Mork are rarely active in this thread.
Next...we will see. I'm hope for good development beetween Zoey/MC in Ep.11.
