Not probably. Definitely. If Stephen has the video he offers Jade a 90-10 split. If you don't show the video to the DIKs or don't fuck Jade in the first place he offers a 50-50 split.

whereas with Jade's video it's a much more judicious operation, getting the video shot (or commissioned) to whoever would gain the most from it. and Burke hardly has any interest in the footage becoming public: it's one thing to threaten to use it, it's another to actually do it, he'd lose out too.

Stephen only gets the video if the DIKs see it, but it may simply be that the culprit only knows to look for it because of that. So where is MC's old phone?

if you suffer two thefts to say that the thief is the same seems to me quite a gamble...

those are 2 actions that have very little in common apart from Rusty's laptop (and for Jade it's not 100% certain) as a method and intentions. so instead of explaining who else did it you should explain why

I see it as equally complicated to explain why Cathy's photo is published without a second thought, while Jade's much more striking video is instead kept hidden or even ‘donated’ to Burke

is Burke the culprit? then you have to explain to me why he wanted to ruin Cathy too
was it Nick/Vinnie? then you need to explain to me their connection to Burke.

the only profile that fits both of them is the Nerds, but there you have to invent a whole new story, putting a whole new pawn on the chessboard.

I'm not saying it's not possible that there's only one culprit, just that it's not such an obvious deduction, even taking into account DPC's habit of deliberately inserting false clues

But like you said, another person with a grudge against the DIKs (not that there's a shortage) needs to have a reason to be on the chessboard. If it is a separate entity who so far has only given Stephen the video, what are they doing on paths where you didn't fuck Jade or share the video?

Now Spock I'm all for giving MC the benefit of the doubt for not seeing the Sage is a Burke thing coming, but can we really assume he is smart/paranoid enough to delete everything on his old phone?

Yes there is obviously a spy, but at the moment the laptop is kept in a safe and only three people know the new combination: Rusty, Tommy and MC. The phone is a much easier target.
