My bad, didn't read the why part the first time around. No idea why it wouldn't let you unselect them. Trying to change it off the start menu might give you better results then in game if it is giving you issues

Never tried it, and to lazy to try it now (its enabled for me and i dont see any reason to disable it playing on a good PC anyways)... but what exactly does this option do? "Special effects" i mean... what are those in this game? Cant think of anything besides animations... so does it turn off animations or what?
