You can pretty much go either way (for most characters, Jill and Quinn excluded) . Just don't pursue Cathy, that is an instant breakup from Bella. MiltonPowers is the expert on this. He should be able help you.

Bella is indeed a CHICK MG, but she has no affinity requirements that block her path like Jill, or even Maya. You can be as big a DIK as possible once you're on her path (she still has to like you first, don't turn her off in Episode 3), she just won't always appreciate it.
