No. The patch is only if you are moving from version to another.
If you play without them it could just be an average that factors in your dik/chick status. Like, a dik is less likely to study and more prone to cheating so you get a lower "rating" and a "standard" ending instead of the "best" ending.

Currently it's already the case with season 1 and 2 that in general DIK is automatic fail and CHICK is automatic success (except for the end test I believe where you can choose what to do with the papers) if you play without minigames.
I can't remember if the same is the case with the tests in season 3, but I believe it is.

Oh, I didn't even know that. I played with them active, I used the tests to kinda move the dik/chick meter for my "Neutral, Sage LI but save her" run. (if i needed dik i cheated, if i needed chick i didn't). I just made an educated guess about it. Cool. Thanks.

It can block off certain girls and therefore whole scenes, it also changes certain scenes. And once you have reached permanent affinity, you cannot chose different options at all.

When talking about status, especially early on it makes a big difference, because you get a couple of extra (hot) scenes if you have a DIK status (some even need Massive DIK status).
When talking about affinity, in most cases it only gives some unique dialogue and all girl-routes are available on neutral, so currently in most peoples opinion (including mine) that is the preferred path. There are only 2 girls you cannot get on a specific affinity when you get to the crossroads (where you choose which girl you want to go serious with, if any) in season 2: At that point in time you cannot get a DIK Jill run or a CHICK Quinn run.
With the information and gameplay we currently have, imo it's best to go for a Huge DIK status/Neutral affinity run for the most scenes and options.
In general, I'd say, play the first play through how you like. And see how it goes. Once you did that, you can use the walk through/cheat mod or the walk through pdf's.
